Seidenberg close to a deal?

According to James Murphy of NESN and NESN.com, the Bruins are close to a deal with Dennis Seidenberg pending a physical. Murphy predicts the deal could be announced in 2-3 weeks, probably after the conclusion of the Stanley Cup Finals.  Here is Murph’s tweet

Was just told that Bruins and Dennis Seidenberg very close to new contract pending results from physical. Could be done in 2-3 weeks if good.

  1. DBRUINS says:

If they sign Sidenberg, my guess someone will be traded. The bruins need and must sign Stuart and Boychuck. Does wideman or Hunwhick go?

  2. DBRUINS says:

    or both?

  3. Ward says:

Say bye to Stuart most overrated player by bruins fans just like wideman was a year ago.

    • mook says:

      agreed

    • Gulbickus says:

Overrated? My ass. He is probably their 2nd best stay at home defenseman. They can’t afford to lose another character guy like Stuart. He’s tough as nails and is never afraid to lay someone out or drop the gloves. Stuart is a MUST sign.

      • JONOVISION says:

agreed, every team needs a mark stuart.rugged drop the gloves stay at home D.by the way,who led the Bruins in post season scoring?dw lol sign him

  4. bbears24 says:

i hope this gets done along with boychuk…no one can say what they are going to do this offseason, but the bruins have to bring back thornton because they are going to need someone to fight for the stars of this team other than lucic and chara. Also, I would trade wideman in a heartbeat, he did ok in the playoffs but there were just way to many mistakes this year, and way too many broken sticks on shots (when he decided to shoot!!).

    • bbears24 says:

it’s unrealistic but let’s package wideman and thomas together to chicago for campbell and someone else.

  5. Edski says:

Does anyone have ESPN Insider they said something about Thomas and Wideman very interested in what that might be

    • Gcole says:

ESPN is fuckin useless for NHL coverage, all they ever cover is the same old Boring baseball and basketball games, I know I live in CT where hockey doesn’t seem to exist and I can never find shit for news or coverage except nesn

    • bbears24 says:

it just said that wideman could be put on the trading block this off-season and thomas might use his NTC to stay in boston even if they find a trade.

  6. da wreck says:

If the Bruins do re-sign Boychuk I hope he doesn’t turn into another Wideman or Hunwick. Most of us were excited about both signings and they took a turn the other direction last season.

Boychuk played amazing for the Bruins last year. I hope it’s the start of a great career and not an average player with a big paycheck.

    • bruins4eva says:

well i have always said that the bruins should get hall…but…i have changed my mind….and i like seguin better for two reasons a right shot…and a right handed shot might fit better on a line wit savvy aka kessel…and i think seguin will be better then kessel so either way will be awesome

    • pearson says:

what the hell was that breakaway at 2:57 mark? holy shit. get this kid a bruins jersey

    • mcpuck says:

At this point, either one of these guys is a franchise cornerstone. His release is gorgeous, and his vision even at his stage of development is impressive.

I think the fact that the Oilers are still looking heavily at BOTH he and Hall makes me think they can’t decide who fits best.

I’m calling it now, the BP Spills take Seguin.

  7. willisss says:

hunwick is not nearly as bad as everything thinks. give the kid a break. hes not going anywhere and he shouldnt

  8. mook says:

thomas, ference and sobotka are in for surgery this summer…tsn.

  9. bruins4eva says:

  10. lucas says:

ference should go..his deal is ridiclous and he is made of glass…i wanna see stuart and boychuk back..i also lie sidenburg …. the lines would be like
    chara and sidenburg
    wideman and stuart
boychuk and hunwick…any ideas on fowards to bring in?

    • mcpuck says:

Boychuk can’t be relegated to 3rd pairing… he’s a beast in the corners, makes solid open ice hits, and can shoot like a canon. I’d swap Boychuk and Stewie to start

      • lucas says:

ya…i only put boychuk on the third because stuart is more sound defensively…boychuk isnt as good on defense as stuart but way better on offense in my opinion….if the dont bring sidenburg back id actully like to see boychuk back on the first with chara i liked that pairing

      • mcpuck says:

I’m not sure that I’m sold on that opinion just yet. Stewey is a beast, sure, but just because Boychuck is so proficient in the other end doesn’t mean you can take away what he does in his own. How about Bchuk and Stewey, fuck Wideman lol

      • lucas says:

        lmao that sounds great

    • gibbz says:

      Lucic Savard Hall
Gagne Krejci Langenbrunner? Backes? any hard-hitting forward
      Sturm Bergeron Satan
      Thorton Sobotka Hanzal(UFA)

      Chara Seidenberg
      Wideman Boychuk
      Stuart Ference

      Rask
      sabourin

  11. ELWOPPO says:

HA HA HA This is how Wideman makes me feel!!! And Some of the Bruins Management!! I CAN RELATE TO THIS GUY!!

    • Bruins says:

      MUST SEE VIDEO

This shows you everything Seguin does. I’d be happy with either one but Seguin > Hall.

    • Bruins says:

I’m loving the pass at 0:53, that skating at 1:14 (someone other than Krech to carry the puck up the ice!), the hockey IQ at 2:10, the hands at 2:31, the savard-esque pass at 5:47, and the fire at 9:15. All that without mentioning 1 of his 48 goals last year.

  12. Bruins says:

My own personal player comparisons for the two:

Seguin: A hybrid between Stamkos and Toews. He seems to have similar skating ability to Stamkos and looks like his one-timer ability is comparable. He also looks like he has the hands of a Jonathan Toews. He isn’t quite the scorer that Stamkos is or quite the defensive stalwart that Toews is but the mix he has is impressive.

Hall: Glenn Anderson. Hall’s determination to score is what sts him apart and his game is eerily similar to Anderson’s. Look him up.

  13. Gcole says:

So we are either getting a goal scorer who has Bobby Orr as an agent, or the #1 rated player. Sounds like a great problem

  14. Jeff says:

    Tim Thomas trade unlikely
    7:38
AM ETTim Thomas | Bruins Top Email So much for all the Tim Thomas trade talks.

The 36-year-old goalie underwent hip surgery and will be out three to four months, which might make it tough to trade the former Vezina winner, the Boston Globe write. But the other way to look at this is that the reason Thomas struggled was his nagging hip, but it’s unlikely another team will take that kind of risk on an old goalie carrying a big cap hit.

In addition, Thoma may not waive his no-trade clause because of his family. And, secondly, the Bruins might want to keep him around for a little longer in case Tuukka Rask stumbles in his second year.

The Globe writes, “Their best move now may be to keep the 36-year-old Thomas, expecting that he will recover fully, be motivated from his challenging 2009-10 season, and battle Rask for the No. 1 role.” And Thomas has said that’s what he has in mind, as well.

  15. Jeff says:

B’s keeping Wideman — for now
    7:17
AM ETDennis Wideman | Bruins Top Email Dennis Wideman had a frustrating year and, although some believe he’ll be trade bait soon, the Boston Globe writes that the Bruins will keep him because there’s a lack of puck-moving defensemen in the organization.

But that means Wideman needs to play well, like he did in the playoffs, and not like his regular-season self. If he struggles again, the Boston Herald thinks there’s a possibility the Bruins deal him.

However, the Globe writes, “Wideman has two years ($3.875 million annually) remaining on his contract. Considering his assets, it’s a good bet he’ll play out his deal in Boston.”

But remember: The Bruins have several high selections in the draft — four in the first two rounds. So GM Peter Chiarelli could use those to bring in and dump players at the draft. In addition, there have been rumors that the Bruins want to trade for Tomas Kaberle this offseason, which would make Wideman more expendable.

  16. willisss says:

so its 12:06, and officially my birthday….what better gift then a resign of boycuck and sobotka

  17. DBRUINS says:

    Hey Willisss,

is that your birthday wish or has it happened????

  18. ELWOPPO says:

I know this has nothing to do with hockey, But the world cup is less than three weeks away and im a huuuuge soccer fan!Nike recently released this world cup commercial.Check it out!Pretty kool!Forza ITALIA!

    • soccer = gay says:

      You’re a douche. Soccer BLOWS.

      • Jonovision says:

Soccer? WTF lol, trade the bruins for a bag o soccer balls while ur there…

      • ELWOPPO says:

U dont like soccer thats ur opinion and UR entitled to it, But the World Cup is the most watched EVENT in the world! Not to mention Soccer is the most popular sport world wide! STUPID!!!!!!!

      • bruinskid says:

I don’t care what you say..I guarantee you watch at least one world cup game.

  19. Pearson says:

    James Murphy:
Source close to Vinny Lecavalier told me that he isn’t expecting 2 be dealt but if he is asked to waive NMC, Boston is a team he’d consider.

    Fuckin excellent. Get it done.

  20. Bruins says:

Interesting thing I saw in an interview from the combine (on the Leafs site which is funny because the only team providing in depth coverage is the one with no picks). Devante Smith-Pelle was asked if the teams were intense in the interviews. He said some were and others were laid back. When asked which teams were intense he singled out only the Boston Bruins and said they asked a few questions that he had no idea how to answer.

Here are Seguin and Hall’s interviews.

  21. Birdman2403 says:

Seguin is jacked !! I don’t think there is a bad option here !!

    • Bruins says:

Lol I was just coming one here to write that. I always had questions about his size but I don’t anymore.

  22. Gcole says:

I want the bruins to go out and get byfuglien, he’s the fuckin man.

    Seguin-savard-byfuglien
    lucic-krejci-Satan
    recchi-bergeron-wheeler
    paille-thornton-sobotka

  23. G-Rant says:

Forget satan. He won’t be back. Recchi will and that’s great, but no satan.

  24. BosBrn77 says:

Bruins announced today that they signed Yuri Alexandrov to an entry level contract. He is rated as the Bruins top defensive prospect and 3rd best in the organization on Hockey Futures.

    http://www.hockeysfuture.com/teams/boston_bruins

Nice to see that PC does care about the young guys coming up. Obviously this will be a Providence addition.

    Per Hockey Futures….

    Talent Analysis

Scout 2: A dependable defenseman…shoots left…doesn’t have many weak spots…main area of improvement is his body mass and strength– he is very light…good top speed… skates well backwards …a technically sound skater…a strong leader (1988 born national team’s captain)…aggressive – likes to hit, likes the physical aspect of the game…a capable power play quarterback…dangerous as both a shooter and a passer…shot – not bad, good strong shot…solid first pass out of the zone…controls the puck well, modern two way defenseman…gets ice time in Cherepovets – not much, but consistently gets ice time.

  25. mcpuck says:

didn’t someone want us to sign Alexandrov REALLY bad a little while ago? I like this signing… we know we’re going to lose someone eventually, and we’re going to need someone to step up, and this give us a few more bright spots

    • Bruins says:

Yep that was me. Absolutely huge signing in my opinion. I thought for sure he’d be a lifetime KHLer but it looks like he wants to be in North America. The only reason he was a second round pick was because of that uncertainty. Awesome puck-moving d-man. I’d start him in Providence for a little bit to get him accustomed to the NA game and then move him up to the big club as soon as possible.

  26. Bruins1 says:

Ok, I have been thinking about the draft and here is my suggestion. Edmonton will take Hall but they need a Center. The Bruins need a W but have to take Seguin who is center. Why not after the draft The Bruins and Oiler make a trade:
To Edmonton: Marc Savard and Ryder
To Boston: Ales Hemsky and a pick

We get younger and cap relief. This deal does make sense. What u guys think?

    • backbruin says:

      i hate it!

    • Bruins says:

Man Seguin is perfectly capable of playing the wing. Chiarelli said half the time he’s seen him he’s been on the wing and said it would be a good way to enter him into the league anyways.

    • Gcole says:

Sure whatever we can do to get rid of Ryder

    • da wreck says:

Wow. Reward a guy with a 7 year contract and trade him before it starts? Good start already.

That trade makes me sick to my stomach in so many ways. Ales Hemsky? He’s made of glass and hasn’t scored more than 70 whatever points in a season in his career. He defintely has talent but I also think he’s possibly one of the most overrated players in the league. He’s got all this hype, but never delivers.

Marc Savard? Possibly one of the most underrated players in the league. He’s said he wants to retire as a Bruin and when he’s not half concussed, he plays with fire in his eyes and actually produces consistently.

Hemsky and Savard’s cap hit’s are almost identical next year. You’d honestly trade Savard for the sole purpose of getting rid of Michael Ryder?

I’d be with the group of Bruin’s fans with pitchforks on your front lawn.

      • Bruins1 says:

You talk about Savrad, but does he show up in big games???? Can he change a game by himself like a true franchise center should do? I don’t think so and if you look at Hemsky, he is a passer not a scorer. Not to mention younger than Savrad. I like Savard but he isnt a top line center. 2nd line player actually. Think about it.Woudl be a very good trade for us.

      • Gcole says:

i would say savard shows up in big games. he got the OT winner against montreal game 3 to avoid going down 3-0, got the OT winner against philly in game 1 this year, and i dont think i need to find any more examples, for his cap hit its a STEAL, dont trade savard, dont trade ANY of our centers, bruins are set on center, keep it that way!

    • Ward says:

Savard for hemsky did you really think this was a good trade?

  27. Gcole says:

hmmm so PC is talking about trying to trade for a second high first round pick… say he does that, loses whatever picks/prospects. imagine edmonton takes seguin… how badass would it be to get hall AND fowler!?

    • Bruins says:

Yeah he sounds like he’ll be aggresive. I think the Bruins should try hard to get a solid defenseman as they look very good up front for prospect depth. I doubt he gets into the top 5 but I’ve heard that the Bruins are very high on Gormley. I think the Islanders would pass on him at 5 because they’re loaded with defense prospects so they’d probably need to trade up with either Tampa Bay or Carolina at 6 or 7.

A more realistic option would be trading up to 10 with the Rangers to land Pysyk as I guaruntee that the Stars would take him at 11. They’d probably need to trade up to 8 or 9 to get Forbort.

  28. Bruins says:

Give it a rest on trading Savard. He’s far and away the most underrated player in the league. Look at his point production over his career. He was fully healthy for only his first 7 friggin’ games this year. After that he clearly wasn’t healthy the rest of the way and especially not in the playoffs. He’s also been our best playoff performer the last few years. Give him some rest in the offseason and he’ll be back to normal, feeding Seguin with tape-to-tape passes for the next 7 years.

  29. Mook says:

Now you want to trade Savard?

    You’re a fucken moron.

  30. Birdman2403 says:

Savard stays !! As time goes by it seems the Oilers may be interested more in Seguin, being a center.

Perfect, we need wingers !! Both guys would be awesome…but a franchise winger with Savard would be great !

  31. Jefe77 says:

Enough talk about trading Savvy! Holy shitballs,…Savvy and Bergie should be co-captains of the Bruins. They have the most Bruins heart; why the hell would we ever consider getting rid of either of these 2? Seguin will play wing, and the Bruins will be the strongest team down the middle once again.

  32. Bruins says:

Here’s what I’d propose for captaincy next year for a leadership shakeup:

    Bergeron – C
    Chara – A
Recchi (assuming he resigns) – A
    Savard – A

    • mook says:

what do you base your suggestion on? play? points? heart? work ethic?

      • Bruins says:

Everything. It’s true we don’t see behind the scenes but how can you argue against Bergeron being the captain? For all that’s written about him he’s a class ac, he’s the longest serving Bruin, leads by example, extremely active in the community, etc.

    • Bruins46 says:

YES. Put the C on a real competitor in Patrice. I’ve been saying this since the start of the season.

      • Bruins says:

I’ve been saying it since after the 2006 offseason lol. Maybe he was a bit too young then but he’s definitely not now.

  33. Bruins1 says:

If u wnat to talk leaders , it should be this:
    Bergeron – C
    Savard – A
    Krecji- A
    Stuart – A

Chara shoudl eb tarded so we have room for Seidenberg, Boychuck, and Fowler

D would look great as this:

    Seidenberg Boychuck
    Fowler Wideman
    Stuart Ference

  34. pearson says:

problem with us picking captains is there is alot of stuff that goes on that we dont see.

with what happened this year its hard to say what will become of the bruins captain spot, but thats not really for us to decide.

  35. Bruins says:

Here’s my rankings for the draft, which includes how injury-prone they are and questions about them coming over to the NHL:

    1. F Seguin – all-around with the highest ceiling
    2. F Hall – sniper with a rare goal-scoring drive
    3. D Gudbranson – Pronger-like d-man and future captain material
    4. D Fowler – best offensive defenseman, freakish skating ability
    5. D Gormley – do-it-all d-man
    6. F Niederrieter – big-body with big offensive capabilities
    7. F Connolly – all-around player that only drops because of injury status
    8. F Skinner – probably the best pure goal scorer outside of Hall and Seguin
    9. D Forbort – Huge defenseman that can play an all-around game
    10. F Tarasenko – ultra-skilled forward that only drops because of the Russian factor.

As for the Bruins 15th pick, if they can’t use it to trade up for one of the top 3 defensemen, I think they should target either Pysyk or Merrill, who are both defensemen.

  36. bbears24 says:

I heard that next year’s draft is going to be weak, so shouldn’t the bruins package a majority of those picks and some of this years and trade up to #1 and another top 5??

    • Bruins says:

It’s kind of hard to label an entire class as weak this early. Just look at Seguin. He was ranked 9th coming into this year and only had 67 points last year.

It looks like there are 3 surefire guys next year though.

Adam Larsen who set rookie scoring records as a defenseman in the Swedish Elite League and who people are calling one of the best defense prospects in some time (along with Hedman and Doughty).

Sean Couturier who is big forward and who led the QMJHL in scoring this year (which is unheard of for a guy not even in his draft year).

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins who I think will be the Tyler Seguin of next year. Solid season last year, strong all around game and ready to break out.

So with those guys in mind we should at least hold onto Toronto’s first next year for the time being.

  37. jimmy50 says:

How sick would it be if Toronto sucked again next season and we acquired another top 3 pick!

    • bbears24 says:

very good chance of a top 5 at worst top 10…they are talking about trading kaberle for draft picks, so they are clearly thinking about the future not the present.

      • Gcole says:

well who the fuck knows whats going to happen. didnt we think this years pick would be in the mid-teens? haha so much for that! dont get too excited thinking were getting another top 3 next year, just keep youre expectations low and get surprised.

      • Bruins says:

Whatever happens next year is gravy. Come on the second pick in a draft year where the top 2 guys are closer than ever, not to mention the second highest second round pick? We hit the jackpot.

  38. DBruins says:

The Leafs will suck again. What will make them better next season compared to this season. We have atleat a top 10 pick at worst.

  39. Edski says:

Bruins want Fowler…..how do we get him????
Wideman 2010 2011 First Round picks from Bruins for Blue Jackets 1st round pick……

I am a little wishful thinking but it does make sense for both sides.

I see the offensive lines like this next year
    Sturm Savard Hall
    Wheeler Krejci Ryder
    Looch Bergeron Recchi
    Thorton Sobotka Begin

    • Bruins says:

There’s a few options. I’d say some combination of these pieces would be involved:

15th pick, 32nd pick, 45th pick, Wheeler, Wideman.

I love how many picks we have in such a deep draft so I’d want Wheeler and Wideman gone instead of losing too many picks.

I could care less about Wheeler. Anyone can have him. And if the Bruins sign Soderberg (which it’s rumoured they will) that’s a cheap replacement for free.

Wideman turned his game around but I think he might be expendable because of Alexandrov (although I have more faith in him than most), along with Fowler if they get him. Both of those guys are puckmovers so that skillset of Wideman’s wouldn’t be missed. And if he’s moved and we send Wheeler back to Windsor for a year that helps out our cap situation. If we bring him up it would still be fine anyways though.

I’d be over the moon if we bring in Hall/Seguin and Gudbranson/Fowler/Gormley.

  40. Edski says:

Bruins and Oilers talking pick swap what do you think we would have to give up to make this work. This would be like an Eli/Phillip Rivers swap

  41. DBruins says:

I say stand pat with the 2nd pick and take whoever the Oilers don’t take. Use the other picks to move up to get a defencemen.

  42. G-Rant says:

    Agreed.

  43. backbruin says:

Bettman is such a shitstain!!!bobbing and weaving!!!

tired of this guy!!have a look

  44. bbears24 says:

Bruins re-sign shawn thornton………that’s good now we have an enforcer and team body guard now we need goal scorers

  45. Mook says:

    he’s not a heavyweight. i’ve never actually seen him win a fight…

too much of this mma shit is seeping it’s way into the nhl. fight like a man. stand there and take a punch.

  46. Edski says:

Anybody else watching the Cup on Versus HD with no announcers kinda cool almost like ur actually at the game

  47. Boston2213 says:

thornton is a great guy to have and he gives effort every night thats all u can ask for

  48. mook says:

if i played on the bruins, i’d give 100% too but i’d still suck.

nevermind those fight stats…they count takedowns and other pansy shit. those “wins” don’t send messages. remember lucic and chara open-up a few guys at the beginning of last year? that’s where it’s at.

    • pearson61 says:

gotta make em bleed to win. thorty can take some punches to the face and not budge, thats def. the reason he wins those fights

  49. d-dawg says:

Confirmed, Seidenburg signed 4 year extension with Bruins, as per Bruins website.

    • Bruins says:

      3.25 per. Sweet deal.

    • bruinsfanupnorth says:

I love this signing. Not sure how this affects the cap but I liked the way seidenburg played. Smart, good positional defenceman with an offensive upside. Nice deal.
