Kaberle or Picks?

The other rumored deal that fell apart draft day because of a miscommunication was something along the lines of Phil Kessel for Tomas Kaberle and the 7th overall pick or Phil Kessel and the Bruins 1st rounder for Tomas Kaberle.

Obviously, the Kessel for Kaberle and the 7th pick would have been a great deal, but Kaberle is an expiring contract, but the 7th pick could prove to be higher than the 2 we received.

We signed Derek Morris for 3.3 million instead of acquiring Kaberle.

Now the question is, is the the trade for 2 1sts and a 2nd better than Kessel and a 1st for Kaberle?

I say the trade that just happened was better than the one that could have occurred in June.

chia thought the deal was kaberle and a 7th for kessel and burke thought it was kessel and a 1st for kaberle… so there was no real trade proposal.

id take the picks over those deals though. im not saying its bad to have kaberle, but i already think we have a better version of him in wideman (not as fast, but a better overall player).

these picks will be huge. especially with the bruins scouting dept. we’ll nail that 2nd round pick too

Well take into account that the Bruins are going to be making some moves some time during the season or after… Thomas and Rask can’t co-exist and with Rask’s contract expiring, look for them to either move to make him the starter or trade him while his value is high. That being said, the B’s have a lot of guys they need to resign, and I see them making a strong offer for Savard… so maybe Thomas and Patrice/Hamill for Wolski/Svatos and a 1st? I know we have a lot of picks already but we’re not going to keep all of them anyways, and with the Avs it’s a top 5-10… clears cap space for the big UFA/RFA’s and solves some of the Avs needs

Patrice is captain material. You don’t trade a guy like that; who has so much hockey sense, leadership, two-way play and has shown that much dedication to Boston.

As far as Thomas getting moved goes,…that would be after playoff runs over the next two season, Cup or not. PC knows what kind of reputation signing then trading builds, so he did’nt sign Timmy to send him out the door. I believe Thomas will be bought out the last season or two by the Bruins respectfully (the Bruins contract with Timmy has set them up for this option as a low cap hit), retire and let Rask step in as the starter. It wont happen overnight with Rask,…so don’t be too excited to see Timmy finish his days here.

I agree Mcpuck that the Bruins need to re-sign Savard. The obvious trade upside the Bruins have are the 4 first round picks in the next 2 years, along with some expendable D. 1 first rounder, Ferrence and prospect would go a long way to trade and fill a necessary roster role at the right time.

Let’s let PC be PC. After all, he proved his genius once again by not letting Morris slip through his fingers by coddling Kessel to stay. PC is da man with a plan.

You’re missing the point with Rask and Thomas… Rask has already been pretty public with his desire to play, what makes you think he resigns in the off season without a guarantee. So we have a problem…

I am always interested to hear the sports talk radio guys ask the question: Is the team better or worse after the trade? Obviously when you trade for picks you are not a better team, maybe a deeper organization but not better on the ice. With that said, I want to see the Bruins get one more winger that can play with grit and put up 20 goals. I’ll have to wait and see on Sturm, I don’t see him fitting the style of play that Claude and PC want to see from the Big Bad Bruins.
