No Sniper

Pretty much every team in the league has a sniper or a guy who can pot 40 goals and every team has to look out for.  The Bruins are balanced, but don’t have a sniper, which is part of the reason why this team is struggling.

Anaheim- Bobby Ryan/Corey Perry
Atlanta- Ilya Kovalchuk
Buffalo- Thomas Vanek
Carolina- Eric Staal
Calgary- Jarome Iginla
Chicago- Marian Hossa/Patrick Kane
Columbus- Rick Nash
Colorado- Milan Hejduk
Dallas- Brendan Morrow
Detroit- Henrik Zetterberg
Edmonton- Ales Hemsky
Florida- Nathan Horton
Los Angeles- Anze Kopitar
Minnesota- Martin Havlat
Montreal- Mike Cammalleri
Nashville- Jason Arnott
New Jersey- Zach Parise
Islanders- John Tavares
Rangers- Marian Gaborik
Ottawa- Alex Kovalev/Daniel Alfredsson
Philadelphia- Jeff Carter
Phoenix- Shane Doan
Pittsburgh- Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin
San Jose- Dany Heatley/Devin Setoguchi
St. Louis- Paul Kariya
Tampa Bay- Vincent Lecavalier/Martin St. Louis
Toronto- Phil Kessel
Vancouver- Daniel Sedin
Washington- Alexander Ovechkin/Alexander Semin

The Bruins best sniper is arguably Michael Ryder and the only players on that list I would put Ryder ahead of as a sniper is Ales Hemsky, Nathan Horton, Milan Hejduk, and Brendan Morrow.  The Bruins are lacking that sniper, which is hurting their offense.

see posts by wtf a couple of blogs back. Could Kovalchuk be a bruin?

  2. Jeff says:

It would be nice if we had a PK specialist to help shut down the other team’s PP. We should look over in Europe for someone who can fill that roll, someone with a experience and Swedish roots. Okay that was hyperbole, PJ is over the hill but what about a player similar to his style?

  3. mook says:

it’s a stretch to call some of thoseplayers on that list “snipers”. i mean, ryder is a better sniper than, say:
    vanek
    morrow
    hemsky
    arnott!

i may be biased, but he could be there for the bruins.

  4. Andrew says:

Our offense is fine… Our PP and PK suck, and we need to learn not to turn the puck over in the defensive and neutral zones.

  5. psands says:

our offense is fine, they have looked weak so far, but there is to much talent there.

what we need is for our special teams to stop sucking, and we need a big defense man to shut people down. our goal tending has been questionable so far.

  6. bruins4eva says:

its not the offense thats hurting…they are giving up so many stupid chances…like the shorthanded breakaway…and its also penalties…they are playing the worst transistion game i have ever seen

  7. da wreck says:

Vanek? He’s scored 40 goals in 2 of the last 3 seasons, and potted 36 in the other. Ryder is a 30 goal scorer at best and it’s a stretch to hit 30. Tomas Vanek would be absolutely insane if he had a true set up man.
