Analyzing the Kobasew Trade

The Bruins traded RW Chuck Kobasew to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for a 2011 2nd round draft pick, the rights to Alexander Fallstrom and Craig Weller. This is a very good deal for the Bruins, as many thought Kobasew was only worth a mid round pick.  This deal sheds 2.333 million from this year’s cap as well as next years, which could help us re-sign Marc Savard.  As much as I like Kobasew, he doesn’t maintain a lot of skill, and is a dime a dozen player in this league.  This deal does hurt the Bruins offensive depth, which means it could be a precursor to another deal.  The Bruins re-called Vladimir Sobotka and Brad Marchand from the Providence Bruins after this deal.

The 2nd round pick provides another pick for the Bruins as they stockpile picks for the next two years. This pick could be dealt for a superstar player come deadline day.

Craig Weller has a cap hit of 600k and is a banger, nothing special about him.

Alexander Fallstrom is a highly rated prospect who could become the steal of this trade.  He is ranked as Minnesota’s 12th best prospect on HockeysFuture.com.

BOOOOOOOOO! Kobasew is a heart player and went 100% everynight! I wish him all the best in Minny.
