Kovlachuk Rumor Roundup

Craig Custance of the Sporting News says the Bruins are pursuing the hardest of Kovalchuk.

Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com says the Bruins are among the teams leading for Kovalchuk.

Kevin Allen predicts that the B’s and Rangers will be in the hunt for Kovy.  He also says that the Thrash aren’t planning on letting teams speak to Kovy’s agent.

UPDATE: WEEI.com is reporting Atlanta wants Toronto’s first round selection from the Bruins if they were to land Kovalchuk.

Yahoo! sports and NHL.com are also all over Boston in the Kovi rumors… I didn’t think it could be true but man… there’s just so much chatter I can’t not believe there’s a chance.

  2. backbruin says:

If they indeed are and that’s a “BIG IF” the Thrasher’s are making it tough for any team to talk extensions. I like many of you, are not use to the B’s going after or leading in the talks for the most sawed after player out there. Can the Bruins management finally make this move to leap us into serious cup fever!!i sure hope so!

  3. Birdman2403 says:

Atlanta not allowing teams to talk extention with Kovy = not good for Bruins. I only want to see trade if he is signed.

    • Pearson says:

The penguins turned it around fast last year with the addition of guerin, solid goaltending, pure goal scorers, and a change in the gameplan.

If we got kovy the gameplan would change drastically, the goaltending has been solid and can only get better, and think of the combo of savard and kovy…

You gotta believe that a line with lucic kovy and savard is one of the most balanced and dangerous in the league.

      DO IT PC

  4. ELWOPPO says:

You poor basterds! Why you gotta make urselves lose sleep at night?????

  5. psands says:

if the thrashers are not letting teams talk extensions with kovalchuk that is perfect for the bruins.

sign him in the off season, that is the best way to do it.

get rid of cap space now, contending teams will take a shot at our crap maybe right now, it has to be done if we want a big prize this off season.

  6. backbruin says:

I don’t think anybody is losing sleep, i think that we are all hoping that for once in our life time the bruins management does the right thing! Nobody hear is 100% sure that we are getting kovalchuk ELSHITTO..As fans we would like to hope, but know in reality it’s a long shot. Please your greatness don’t feel sorry for us, we realize it’s mosr likely not going to happen..But for some strange reason if it does, an apology for your negativity and down right piss poor attitude would be warranted!

    i believe

    • ELWOPPO says:

ur one of the “Poor Basterds” im referring to backbruin! Ur a Fucken goof too! U be positive and ill b realistic!! WE AINT GETTING THE MOTHER FUCKER, Boston does not trade for superstars GET IT THROUGH UR HEAD! what team have u been following in the last decade? Dont u know that by now? We like to use our scouting system to draft players u BONEHEAD!!!!

      • mcpuck says:

wow, such hostility amongst Bruins fans. You have to admit Elwoppo, the amount of news surrounding Boston and Kovi is at a different level than we’ve ever seen.

I do agree that we shouldn’t get our hopes up, we still have to deal with Jacobs holding the purse strings…

I can hope though, and there hasn’t been much else that happened this year to give me any.

  7. Bruins says:

thats pretty stupid on ATL’s part to not let a team negotiate with him beforehand. its pretty clear that the thrashers will not be getting him back no matter what, so why not increase the value you get back by allowing a team to negotiate with him?

  8. Bruins says:

chia also clearly stated that he will not be giving up toronto’s first of this season. good news

  9. goosegoose35 says:

Yea the bruins would never give that up. ATL is smokin some good drugs…again they are in no position to demand anything. All ATL has going for it is that there are at least 3 teams competing for Kovie. The price for Kovie will be what ever the best offer is. If the best offer is Bruins 1st pluss wheeler and prospect, then we will get him. ATL WILL deal Kovie. they cannot afford not to. as far as picks go, the Bruins have the advantage. a low 1st round draft (lower than LA or CHI) is more valuable than some roster players. Unless LA or CHI offers some ridiculous package, I don’t see how the Bruins can loose out in a bid. No one is going to overpay for a rental when they can overpay him long term in july

  10. Vince_M says:

Man, if they are going to do then just do it. If they don’t intend on going after Kovy then find someone else. This team needs to do something though. We are in one hell of a slump and need a big push. This team seems lifeless and just going through the motions. I really like Wheeler on this team but if it means getting Kovy then do it. Wheeler, prospect and Boston’s #1 hopefully will do it and then hopefully they can resign him long term or we will be in this same spot next year.

  11. Bill says:

No way do they get the Toronto 1 pick for a rental player.

  12. ELWOPPO says:

for all u wierdo’s out thier- Were not getting Kov. LIKE IVE BEEN SAYING ALL ALONG-
sorry to burst ur bubbles guys- read the following as per NESN

The Bruins are actively seeking trade partners, but general manager Peter Chiarelliisn’t planning on taking any desperate measures. Stuck in a five-game losing streak, the B’s brass is admitting the need to shake things up.”I’m looking every year [to make trades], but maybe more so this year because of the way we performed,” Chiarelli told ESPNBoston.com. “Having said all that, we want to be in the playoffs and we want to succeed in the playoffs.”Boston has a lot to offer heading into the March 3 deadline, including a pair of first-round picks in the 2010 draft — one of which is the pick they received from Toronto in exchange for Phil Kesselin the preseason. The Maple Leafs currently stand as the league’s 28th-ranked team, meaning the Bruins may very well land the No. 1 overall pick in the draft. According to Chiarelli, the B’s plan on pressing their luck in the lottery, as that pick is untouchable when it comes to trade talks.”I can tell you one thing, I’m not trading Toronto’s pick [for this year],” said Chiarelli. “I am not trading it. That pick is too valuable.”

    • goosegoose35 says:

And that has what to do with getting kovie? Atlanta has to move him. the longer you hold out the better deal you can get. no one is saying trade tor pick

    • Vince_M says:

Not sure Elwoppo but nowhere in that whole quote does is say that the Bruins will not pursue Kovy. I may be mistaken and you have some super power that allows you to read between the lines and know that. Or some kind of ESP that you are projecting to PC telling him not to pursue. But it comes down to if PC can pickup Kovy without dealing TO’s #1 pick this year it is a slim chance.

    • willisss says:

      dude stop talking

    • BosBrn77 says:

Not making “any desperate measure”….. this was referring to firing Claude!

  13. bigbadbruins1 says:

elwoppo is right we all know pc isnt going to do a damn thing he may pick someone up but it aint going to be a superstar pick up kovy yeah right remember we only give superstars away and i know how cheap c thinks savard sturm coming back so those two are going to be like a pickup watch bet u he does fuck all elwoppo i hear u i have seen it one to many times

  14. bruins823 says:

  15. mook says:

Why Atlanta will ask much more from Boston than they would from, say, the Blackhawks:

    Eastern Conference Standings:

    #10 Boston 54 pts, 51 GP
    #11 Atlanta 54 pts, 52 GP

    (Whitney anyone? yes, please)

  16. ELWOPPO says:

EHHHH its my buddy williss, back for more faggot?

  17. mcpuck says:

Christ, some Bruins fans are so pessimistic it’s not even funny. If you have nothing good to say, then keep it to yourself. We’re watching a team falter big time and I think eveyone realizes we need some kind of shakeup.

Kovi, Whitney, something… I don’t really care who it is, although I’d love to see Kovi in a B’s uni. And save your “HE’S NOT GOING TO BE A BRUIN” reply’s, no one’s saying he IS

  18. ELWOPPO says:

No hostility mcpuck,Just thiers a few dummies here on this site like backbruin, mook, and the biggest retard of them all williss that know nothing about hockey!! Dont get me wrong brother i would LOVE to get kovalchuk but lets face it! Our team has a history of trading away stars rather than getting them! And you gonna have to part with that first round pick plus guys like Rask, Krejci, and weeler would have to go! And Chia WILL NOT DO IT! Plus the cap would be an issue aswell! But if u wanna lose sleep over this Kov rumour like the rest of these people here than by all means knock ur self out bro! ILL B A REALIST!!

  19. ELWOPPO says:

No drugs, just women and sports kid!!!

  20. bigbadbruins1 says:
