B’s Need Offense

The Bruins have lost 12 games either 3-2, 2-1, or 1-0.  They have scored under 3 or less goals 37 games.  They have lost 18 games by one goal.  In a tight Eastern Conference race, a guy like Kovalchuk could make a difference.  Say we won even a third of those one goal games, that’s an additional 8-12 points or what not with shootouts and OT.  So that would gave, say 63 points, good for 6th in the East close behind Ottawa and Pittsburgh and well above Philly, Atlanta and the rest of the East.  But hey, if you want to average 2 goals a game, than so be it.

    No shit sherlock!

  2. backbruin says:

i’ve been saying this for 2 months.

  3. Matt says:

I’ve been clamoring for offense forever…to the days of the Rask for Gionta proposal which would have been horrendous since it happened.

  4. Kurt says:

I love Jullian’s response to “how do you build on this” ‘Well we have a real tough opponent up next so it’s going to take a real effort’LOL LOL LOL That is about as much insight as th B’s need Offense.

  5. Peter says:

The Bruins cannot play any better than they did tonight. Same old story one or two goals and we lose again. You cannot win in this league with this type of production or lack thereof. We have good talent on this team but no finisher. Put a 40 plus goal scorer on this team and Ryder, wheeler, Sturm, & Bergeron all become better players in the production department because more ice will open up for them. If P.C. doesn`t move soon she’s all over but the crying.

  6. bigbadbruins1 says:

thanks for that like we didnt know that idiot

  7. Bruins says:

great game, too bad we didnt get teh two points. we’re finally getting healthy now (or at least most players are actually playing), so hopefully we can get something going.

and as long as the leafs keep doing everything in their power to get us taylor hall or tyler seguin, the future will always be bright

  8. psands says:

    where is pekese, mook, williss?

this site has changes a lot, it is sad, everyone is so negative.

i might sound soft, but i don’t care, none of you have been here the last couple years, your bullshit has fucked this site.

    • leafstank says:

its not gonna happen. no matter how many posts you put up matt. sorry to say..

    • BosBrn77 says:

Way too many kids and all their name calling on here! Don’t stoop to their level psands.

Botton line is we are Bruins fans. We all want to see a change, but some can not take people disagreeing with their ideas.

I personally don’t want to see them “take a chance” on a player, that may bolt next year to another team that has more cap space or the KHL, if the price is way too high.

Funny thing is…. most of us, me included, thought the Thomas deal last year was reasonable. But with the team losing, all the blame is falling on him and that deal looks bad now. The team as a whole is playing like dog crap. The unity is not there. Nobody is sticking up for each other. And they are not playing with enough heart.

      • bergylu77 says:

couldn’t have said it better bosbrn77

      • Jefe77 says:

Exactly Bosborn, too many kids, too much ‘name calling’, I have been coming here for 3 years and stopped posting as much because any time one speaks of rationality, of building, patience etc, you are not the voice of the masses. The tone here, is trade the whole team. I have heard the entire roster mentioned here in what names to trade.

Most of the posters here I dont understand where they are coming from, or what fucked up perception they have of hockey and the NHL. I remember a time in hockey, where if your team had a shitty season, that was it; you move on. You dont fuckin blow up the team, you dont freak out and trade your assets, but so many people here apparently would.

Do the Bruins make a move for Kovalchuk? I dont know!!! I am not PC, but maybe some of you here are. Obviously the team needs a goal scorer, bu you all seem to know whats best for the team more than Julien or PC, so what the FUCK are the Bruins waitng for! They should hire some of you pre-emptive impatient clowns to run the team into the dirt.

If PC DOES make a move for Kovy, guess what?? He will most likely only do so if he unloads enough cap room to give him the margin to deal with Kovy long term. There are so many easy ways of understanding what options the Bruins REALLY have with trades and cap space, but SO many here forget that REALITY is an issue. If a deal is made, it will be made with consideration to the team that is being built.

As for the players themselves; the team is NOT playing with heart. It doesnt mean the players dont have it, but there is an issue that goes deep into the locker room here. Chara has not stepped up as captain this season, and Thomas has not been Thomas. Both those players need to pick their shit up, and be the EXAMPLES this team needs right now.

dude take it easy, sorry im not addicted to the computer like u i guess… we all love the bruins and despise the habs so why does it matter that u have been here the longest…

    • ELWOPPO says:

bigbadbruins way to stand ur ground, if you wanna vent on this site and voice ur opinion than do it! Fuck everyone on here if they dont agree with you…..who cares!

  11. #4 says:

    oooh damn.

Im so sick of hearing about kovalchuk, wait until you know you can sign him or its not worth it. If you can sign him 100% pull the trigger.’

We arent winning cup this year even with whitney and kovalchuk if we went all out for it. We should look at chicago model build young fast strong scoring players. Then the rest follows in step.

  12. da wreck says:

A post about anything other than Stats and arguments about getting Kovalchuk to the Bruins would be a nice change.

  13. POWERSURGE says:

Wreck : well write something about something else then. That’s right, you wrote about nothing.

Anyways. I think PC has only two choices: get kovalchuk and sign him, or fire Claude Julien. That’s the only 2 good options to me, for the good of the team. No major roster missing tonight against LA, and it’s the same story for the whole season
    NO OFFENSE!!!

“I was born a Bruins fan and I’ll die as one”

    • Birdman2403 says:

So firing Julien does what ?? Turn Ryder into a 50 goal guy ?? Solves nothing…for once the lazy players should be held accountable !

    • bergylu77 says:

firing julien does nothing, it wont produce goals. julien turned the team around so give him the respect he deserves. some people need to stop turning on these guys… its the players and no goal scorers, not the coach

  14. backbruin says:

Well this is what happens when you lose 9 out of 10 and the trade deadline is fast approaching…why is everybody so sensitive,,this site is as weak as the bruins..what are we all going soft now…although they did play better tonight.

Ive been on here for two years and i’m not sad that guys are gone? We are not all going to agree and when are team plays like this it snowballs to the fans..

I’m not giving up on the playoffs like #4says and completely disagree with him on the kovalchuk and whitney comment!!!

We lose minimum 50% of our games by 1 goal, it’s not like we are getting blown out here. and you say getting whitney and kovalchuk wouldn’t give us a chance…wow maybe this site has lost it’s luster..

that’s just a dumb comment..no wonder there are so many arguments!

    • #4 says:

Hi I am may be new to the sight, but I know my hockey.

Anyways you would trade the future for a russian who will most likely walk and anohter 37 year old?

We have such a strong core of players that only minor tweaks need to happen maybe an offensive specialist to help julien. His system is great in the defensive and nuetral zone. Bruins look a mite team when in the offensive. I think it was jack edwards “how many times did the bruins throw the puck infront of the net with nobody there”.

Maybe you percieve my comment as saying we have no hope but what I am saying is we have more hope than you think. Trading away our potential for an old guy and a superstar may be good for 2o games this year, but what about the next several.

  15. WARDOFTHERINGS says:

they’re power play is awful how many chances did we have 5-6 chances and scored 1 time and i think we are 2-20 fucking pathetic maybe when we got ride of kessel we should have replaced him with another goal scorer now we are looking for a rental and we are going to give up more then we received for a f###king rental. GOT TO LOVE PC.

  16. pearson says:

    …thats for sure.

i would love kovy. but i get the feeling that if we were to get him it would have happened already. i think its beyond the point that pc would trade for such an expensive rental, but i really hope he can pull the trigger on SOMETHING/ANYTHING else. its a sinking ship and management is just not helping this team out

im sadly dissappointed because i really do think this is a team that is missing that one piece to help it win on a nightly basis. i just figured the management would have the know-how to identify the problem and fix it well before [we] post 50 threads about it and complain for the past 3 weeks.

i havent given up on this team yet, but the front office is really starting to piss me off.

    • pearson says:

if money is the problem, then they really have to realize that they wont continue to fill the garden and the bruins hype will die faster than queen latifah in the boston marathon.

      penner? mueller? kariya? teammu? whitney?

something! at least make us think your trying!

  17. OhNiner says:

PETER thats what i’ve been trying to say when we trraded KESSEL !! Who will be the next sniper ? PAILLE SATAN what a joke thanks for bending us over would you like me to pull my cheeks apart too . Did P.C. not see this coming ? HEY PC how many goals does RYDER have compared to KESSEL ? BUT our future looks great !! The present is SHHH!T PULL THE TRIGGER HELLO PULL THE TRIGGER !!!!!!!

    • Bruins says:

do you see what kessel is doing in toronto right now? going into tonight he had 2 goals in 21 games. a slumping krejci who is counted on more for assists than goals was better than that. sturm is keeping pace with kessel. a brutal ryder has 5 less goals.

satan was a low risk option to see if it could spark the team. if it doesnt work out, no biggie. paille has looked great.he’s not an offensive threat. that’s not why he was brought in. he’s basically axelsson’s replacement, which is definitely a good thing.

relax. seriously, how impatient can you be? do you not realize that sometimes you have to make a trade or two for the future? and kessel wasnt an option to resign anyways. he was being a greedy bitch. if that pick is top 3 (which it definitely will be), we already rape the leafs on that deal, with two high picks to go.

      • Pearson says:

I didnt say anything about kessel. That trade was a steal and a half… But his skill set was never replaced and i feel like thats part ofthe reason this season can be blamed on pc

  18. angrybear says:

Im with you Ohniner we should have moved ryder and signed kessel ( hello kessel plays on a shit team and ryder has played more games ) Not saying that we didn’t get good trade value for him , but what about us ? Where is our Phil ? PC anyone

    • MC Puck says:

I don’t think it matters, Kessel isn’t the reason we’re not where we were last year, the whole team is under performing.

    • #4 says:

Kessel has finish but hes a roleplayer, he also is not exaclty playing on a line with The Enforcer(looouuch) and The wizard (savard) you wonder why his goal total dropped. Without the support 5ft 5″ kessel can be shut down by most teams defense.

We got great value for him and I do wish we had let ryder go but he’s claudes favorite so who knows if that will ever happen. The bruins have hungrier players down in ptown let them play weve lost 10 now let them play.

  19. Kurt says:

Got to agree with pearson….Someone needs to check PC’s pulse ….Do we still have a GM? I think at this point we are pro

  20. Kurt says:

Got to agree with pearson….Someone needs to check PC’s pulse ….Do we still have a GM? I think at this point we are probably not going to move Toronto’s pick. So that being said we might as well try to unload salary for next year. Some kind of shake up would be nice.

    1. i somehow paid 85 dollars for a cab ride from newton to riverside because even after YEARS of using the T, i was so drunk i couldnt figure the routes out. im thinking i have a problem

it wasnt a bad game, we skated well. brn77 your right about people blaming thomas and hating the deal, and i agree that alot of people that thought it was a solid deal are now turning on it. i honestly didnt care for the deal since day 1. anyone who knows me is well aware of my stance on tim thomas.

dont let the morons on this bother you ( and when i say ” you” i mean the people who dont suck. you know who you are) cookie who smells bad supplies this blog with more updates and legit rumors then anyone else. let the idiots be idiots. its anoying but its also funny at times. we gotta get jefe back

  22. Peter says:

Folks, this team is deparate and everyone in the league knows it. If P.C. could have made a good deal for the team by now he would have done it. the other G.M’s will try to suck everything out of P.C. that they can that’s why a deal is taking to so long. Unfortunaley every game we play we get fall further back. As far as Kessel, yes we do miss his goal scoring but I think P.C. made the rignt move getting rid of him. Heis not worth the money Toronto is paying him and he is a soft player also who won’t produce in playoff hockey. I think P.C thought like the reast of us tha thi team could score by committe but it did not and that created the sitaution as it is now. I am sure P.C. is wearing out telephone lines to other hockey clubs trying to get something done but he doesnt want to give up the bank for a potential rental. Something has to give soon

  23. G cole says:

Looks like wideman is making a turnaround… Something good

  24. vince_m says:

I have a bad feeling here.

Don’t get me wrong, I will be wearing my Bruins jersey year in and year out. But I have a feeling I will be let-down this trade deadline. Nothing will get done this year and they will hope and put all of their money on the draft. It does not matter what any of us here say and how much we bitch. The Bruins will not trade for Kovy or any other player that will make an impact.

We will however over pay for over the hill and under achieving players. We do at the time have a great nucleus of players to build a dynasty around.

That is just my 2cents. Take it or leave it.

  30. Jefe77 says:

Chara has not stepped up as captain this season, and Thomas has not been Thomas. Both those players need to pick their shit up, and be the EXAMPLES this team needs right now.

  31. Andy says:

Jefe, I couldn’t have said it better myself and a couple other posters (Peter) made some good points. The key here is NO HEART AND PASSION. We don’t get into the dirty areas, we don’t want to go in front of the net, and we don’t have the “I’m going to get to that puck before you and if I don’t, you’ll pay for it” mentality that us who grew up playing hockey had coaches telling us since we were 5! Lack of goal-scoring is obvious, but I truly think if this team had more HEART, BALLS and LEADERSHIP, we would have a few more goals and might have won a few more games.

The one thing that baffles me time and again is the “go get Kovy” mentality. Do you think PC hasn’t tried? Plus, FYI, a lot of these proposals that people post aren’t realistic. ATL is and perhaps already has requested TOR 1st rounder. That’s not happening. Think about it. It’s going to take PRIME picks and prospects to get this done. Not just Wheeler, Hamill, and OUR 1st rounder, for instance. Plus, the fact that sorry, other teams have better pieces to offer. The one thing that PC has going for him is TOR’s 1st, and we’re not giving that up. So I think the chances are very slim that we get Kovy. Would it be great? Absolutely, but I think it would ludicrous, if we don’t get him, to blame PC for it. This is a professional sport business and you have to be realistic about what it takes to get him, not just what the fans think it will take.

To that end, there is always the possibility that we SIGN him July 1st, when it’s KOVY’s decision. On top of that, whether it’s Hall, Seguin, or Fowler, chances are that we’re going to have an 18 yr old stud in Beantown next year.

If we don’t get Kovy at the deadline or before, DO NOT blame PC. I’m sure he’s done everything he can. And also, let me ask everyone here a question – would you rather give up 4-5 prospects/picks for Kovy, then lose in the 1st/2nd rd, THEN lose him to FA, would that be OK with you because we got him NOW, but had nothing to show for it?

This team, as currently constructed, is probably not going to go far in the playoffs, with or without Kovy, and if we make it. We have a ways to go to get to the Washington/Chicago/SJ level and it starts with playing with some HEART & PASSION.

So to me, save the “go get Kovy” talk because he himself is NOT going to save this team. Personally, I think we should ride out this season. I’d rather see them wait, attempt to get rid of Ryder, Wideman, etc. either now or in the summer, and go all out to sign Kovy long-term then. With someone like Hall and Kovy next year, things would look brighter. However, something still needs to be done to give this team a SERIOUS kick in the ass!!!

  32. PowerSurge says:

I think we can all agree that the Bruins are underperforming this year and not meeting expectations. Following a year with the top 2 offence and defence in the regular season, Vezina winning Thomas, Norris wining Chara and Coach of the year Julien; it’s kind of a disapointing turn this season around. We can blame injuries, specific underperforming players, but the fact is: you add 30-40 goals scored and the Bruins would be sitting a the top of the eastern conference and discussions would be related to what the Bruins can tweak at the deadline to contend for the cup this year. The problem is simple: LACK OF OFFENSE!!! Who cares if Thomas or Rask let 3-4 goals a night, ( which they don’t regularly ) you can’t win without goals. So maybe this defensive system that Julien has in place, is not working anymore. There is so many stupid , offensive decision made by the coaching staff this year, it’s a absymal. Who shoots in the shootout is an example, last night’s with Chara starting and Recchi shooting sixth. I’ll go back to the reason I think we lost game seven against Carolina last year. Carolina loses Brindamour, top face-off guy and Julien sends Savard for 3 offensive draws, and he loses all of them. That whole game, Bergeron killed on the draw and Savard was average. This season , because of injuries, lines need to be changed; but Savard with Begin??? Might as well call that the fourth line. Why not stockup a top line with your best offensive players ( Savard with Krejc, or Bergeron). Another thing that Julien never does, which I find odd is: he never changes the lines he started the game with , except for injuries during the game. If no lines are scoring, why not change the line on the fly ?? It’s great that Krejc, Wheeler, Sturm , etc. can kill penalties and play good two – ways but SOMEONE NEED TO SCORE GOALS!! It’s ironic that a player like Kessel with an offensive mind, never seem to get along with Julien. Maybe what were seeing here is a very talented team with major frustration with the system and results. Anyways, I could go on and on but Julien has to change is defensive mode , or be fired. I think an offensive only player could change that ( Kessel or Kovalchuk, etc.)

“I was born a Bruins fan and I’ll die as one”

  33. Andy says:

Power, the reason why we lost to Carolina is the same reason I think we’re really lacking this year – NO heart & passion. Carolina had it and we didn’t, which is why we lost to a bunch of AAA guys. It’s obvious that we would win more games this year if we could score more than a Pee-Wee team, but I think that just getting Kovy doesn’t immediately solve all of our problems.

My point is this – even with Kovy, I don’t think we get past the 1st/2nd rd, because we lack heart & passion. You get a team in the playoffs that is REALLY hungry and wants it, we’re toast, because it’s easier to shut down a good offensive team that doesn’t have the heart to get it done when the chips are down (See San Jose) than if one team isn’t hungrier than the other (then the more talented team would win)

Again, I think we should just stay the course this year and let the chips fall where they may. Then, in the summer (or before), see what we can do about getting rid of Ryder, Wideman, and co. and try to SIGN Kovy then. At that point, maybe we can try to sign a couple depth, character, players, with leadership who won’t let this team fold when we’re in a funk.

    That’s my 2 cents..
