Some Kovalchuk Grumblings

Seems like Jay Grossman wants Don Waddell to let teams negotiate with Kovalchuk.  He posted an article reiterating hwo teams should be allowed to negotiate with him on his twitter account. If Waddell does go down the route, it seems the Toronto pick could be in play.  Based on what Peter Chiarelli has said, unless he either can negotiate with Kovalchuk or feels there is a solid chance he would sign here, he is going to wait until the price drops.

Siging Kovalchuk changes EVERYTHING ! The longer this goes on Atlanta has to let him talk to teams to get more of a return. If they could sign him….bye, bye pick !

  2. vince_m says:

If they can sign Kovalchuk then trade away Toronto’s pick. Who knows we might still end up with a high pick.

  3. #4 says:

    for a signed Kovalchuk..

All this draft stuff falls apart:
    A) We get a known proven top 3 scorer
    B) Who the F knows how the draft goes
    C) Add to B what if toronto’s trade works out and we dont get a top 3 pick (suicide)

NESN.COM: James Murphy reports on the possibility Carolina Hurricanes forwards Ray Whitney and Matt Cullen plus defenseman Aaron Ward might be viable trade targets for the Boston Bruins in the days leading up to the March trade deadline. Other possibilities include Columbus’ Raffi Torres and Phoenix’s Peter Mueller.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: I agree with Murphy that those are more reasonable and affordable potential trade targets for Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli. Barring the unforeseen I doubt he’ll make a move for Atlanta’s Ilya Kovalchuk as some have suggested in the recent past.

  5. JONOVISION says:

i agree with the canes trade, sounds more viable.those three players will make a good fit on the ice and in the locker room.the kovi tirade is way too expensive,.not to mention no garauntee kovi resigns?

  6. leafstank says:

    wheres the article

  7. bruins4eva says:

if we can definitely sign kovvy before we get him then yes trade that pick away

  8. Bruins2010 says:

come on this is what the bruins need a top guy some one that can score goals cuz well that doesnt happen much at all any more

  9. johnny mac says:

bleh i love the idea of kovi but im entirely sick of hearing about this.

  10. Joe says:

I wouldnt do it. i would take my chances in free agency, before trading that pick. We could have a 40 goal scorer with seguin or hall.

    • Ant says:

We could have one with the pick. Or we CAN have one with Kovi if I could choose I would take the sure thing only if he is signed. Not saying I dont like what your saying I am just not a big fan in the draft. Well atleast not for the Bruins everytime we draft someone good we trade them. JMO

      • Leafstank says:

i like the draft. how can you go wrong with a top three pick Ant? and also, i feel like Seguin/hall/fowler will fit right in with our system.and they’re cheap. honestly id rather wait till FA where guys like Patrick Sharp, Ray Whitney and possibly even Kovalchuck will be avalible. then we will have the pick and a new wing in the line up.

  11. grant says:

Keep the pick. Forget kovalchuk. Add whitney and ward. Let the team get healthy and watch. Conference finals.

  12. da wreck says:

Eklund also has Modano on the Bruin’s radar. Wow. talk about old school. Looking at Tkachuk and/or Modano? Sorry, They’re reaching too far if that’s who they’re wanting to add.

    • pearson says:

modano would be interesting… but im not really sure what the logic behind that would be. i dont really think we would benefit from another 15-20 goal scorer.

he’s been on the stars for 20 years now and i cant help but think how akward that would be if they gave him to us to help make a cup run. it would sorta be like your friend passing his girl off on you so you could get her prego

  13. ELWOPPO says:

Wideman,Bergeron,Paille and a pick for Kovalchuk! This way you save over 9 mill on those 3 guys, enuff to sign Kovalchuk long term! Than you move Recchi to 3rd line center, this way you keep ur 3 solid lines! LOOK…

    Kovalchuk Savard Sturm
    Weeler Kreijci Ryder
    Lucic Recchi Satan
    Sob Begin Bitz

    • Bruins says:

k this will be my last “do not get kovalchuk” post (maybe).

the fact that the thrashers aren’t letting anyone negotiate with him prior to the trade would be because:

      a) he has told them he is determined to test free agency no matter what

      b) he has said he’s going to the KHL next year

      c) he plans to sign back with the thrashers at the end of the year, after they get other assets for him

it makes zero sense otherwise. forget kovalchuk

  14. pearson says:

alright, dont yell at me but how about something like

    morris, hamill

    to dallas for

    eriksson

    • Bruins says:

yeah theres no way. eriksson is one of the better young players in the league, and might be the stars best player

  15. Haus says:

    Dont read eklund its garbage.

  16. G cole says:

Is it just me or is everyone nesn mentioning OLD?! Enough old guys for gods sake get some
young guns with energy to spend..

  17. Dolo says:

I really hope they dont sign Keith Tkachuk. It doesn’t make any sense we will be no better than we are now by getting him.

  18. Pete says:

Here’s the real problem. The trade deadline comes and no matter what the Bruins do or don’t do they are screwed. The Kovalchuk rumor is so pervasive that PC can’t win. It almost seems like they will trade for Tkachuk just to make a trade and placate the fans who are screaming for a trade. The current team has boat loads of talent but just aren’t playing up to par.

  19. bruno says:

The Bruins let their scoring star go because he wanted to and the their biggest mistake was not replacing him. The Bruins let alot of experience go when PJ, Yelle, Knidy, and Ward left and took their toughness, with these players gone and not replaced with the same or better players we see the results. We have a team struggling and in desperate need of scoring. Kolvy could help us in scoring and make other players around him better and maybe the best of all, PC showing he wants to win with a guy like Kolvy, other good Rfa’s would want to come to Boston to play with him. With the season the Bruins are having not to many good players will want to play here without a good player and a winnig season. The Bruins need scoring and a big name and Kolvy is our man. We won’t win the cup this year but 2011 watch out, this is only if we can sign him, if not we have to go wioth the picks and pray.

    • mook says:

how quickly we forget about how EVERYONE wanted to trade kessel for over a year. if savard was healthy, we wouldn’t be still crying over kessel.

oh…and look at all the goals he’s scoring in toronto…

      • Hammer says:

Yeah he’s doing a bang up job keeping them in last place.

      • Bruins says:

the funny thing is that sturm is keeping up with kessel this year for goals, yet no one seems to want to talk about that.

and yeah savard has been out half the season. and when you talk about savard, when he plays he’s a guy that makes everyone better.

    • willisss says:

i would take boychuck of hnidy, morris over ward, paille over pj and sobotka over yelle

      • #4 says:

Me 2 but ummmmm… Look how it turned out.

I think this team just needs Neely to give them all a HUGE kick in the rear.

        THe dumpiest players are:

        Ryder
        Wideman
        Begin
        Thomas

If they were never a part of this years equation I think we wouldve done alot better, more cap room less dumpy players who forget to take off their Gf’s pantys before the hit the ice.. But thats only speclation

  20. mook says:

no kidding. people just want to make trades for the sake of making trades…then get all pissed when a trade doesn’t happen.

  21. Leafstank says:

they arent going for kovy till the offseason. everyone should just drop that right now. seriously.1) as of right now, we dont look to be contending for the cup nad 2) kovy is a HUGE risk as a rental.

    • backbruin says:

I disagree, and i know it’s in the middle of a slump. I still believe we are good and need a piece like kovy whom you absolutely think we have no chance at. You may be 100% correct but getting him makes us very dangerous.

But i’m sure we won’t get him now or in the offseason so it’s all really pointless.

One thing i must say is that rental/kovi should never have to be mentioned again! I really hope i don’t have to see that in the same sentence again…

Although P.C sis state in his interview with EEI that he would most certainly look for a impact rental…so whatever that means!?!?

  22. Bruins says:

    anyone know who’s starting tonight?

  23. bruins4eva says:

just another tidbit…chara has been playing wit a dislocated finger for the past 9 weeks

    • backbruin says:

ya they say he will need surgery in the offseason….I just want our d men to start hitting the net!!please tonight….hit the net!!!

  24. backbruin says:

I do think that P.C is telling alot of press that there is no way he will trade T.O’s pick…I think he’s posturing but would still consider it if waddel would allow teams to talk contact with kovy!!!

Would you guys trade that pick and obviously more to get kovy if we could sign him?

    I know i would!!!

  25. willisss says:

thomas and wideman to the caps for backstrom

  26. gibbz says:

    fan by ovie….dumbass

  27. Bruins says:

dominating period against the best/hottest team in the league. everyone looks good out there. could easily have been 3 or 4-0 but theodore got himself a time machine and went back to ’02.

  28. Pearson says:

They’re lookin good. It could probably be more than 1-1 but the goalies are playing well.

Also, eklund says the b’s are talking to sj about clowe…

  29. gibbz says:

    COME ON KREJCI!

  30. Pearson says:

I dont even know what to say anymore guys. Id almost just rather not waste my time in coming here but i cant help but see that this team has the talent but is frankly only missing that elite scorer. Pc is absolutely letting this entire city down as if he thinks it a big joke.

Not to beat a dead horse but kovalchuk is there. Hes available and we have young players, draft picks, and our best center, goalie, and dman are aging. The time was now. This was the year and the obvious missing piece has been available. So get him.

Im not advocating trading for him now but it just really fuckin bums me that the management has been asleep during what could have been the year.

  31. mike says:

    krejchoke.
