Stuart out with a broken finger

Marc Stuart is out for the next 3-4 weeks with a broken finger.  It is believed Stuart suffered the injury when he fought shield yielding Wayne Simmons of the LA Kings.  The absence of Stuart forces Adam McQuaid into the lineup and leaves the Bruins with four right-handed shooting defensemen, meaning one defenseman will have to play his off side.  The most likely scenario will have the Bruins using Derek Morris on the left side and paired with either Boychuk or McQuaid. Here is how I project the defensive pairings to look like:

Wow. When it rains it pours

Whats the chances we sign ward?

  3. bruins823 says:

figures. this team cant catch a break.

im sure people heard PC on EEI today. he said, no chance at trading toronto’s first pick. absolutly not!!

  4. #4 says:

Should be a fine for fighting with a visor. If you wanna do dirtwork dont wear the pussy shield.

  5. mook says:

The Ducks placed defenceman Nick Boynton on waivers.

  6. Peter says:

No way Mook, don’t agree. Boyton was an average defenseman who was hot head who couldn’t fight and took to may penalties.

  7. G cole says:

Let’s do a leafs style deal ourselves! Fuck it, whatdo we have to lose at this point, WE CANT WIN A FUCKING GAME! Trade for Whitney, Cullen and ward, then trade for tkachuk.. Doesn’t seen like things are magically healing themselves

  8. bruins4eva says:

its a good thing there is a winter break…

  9. jimmy50 says:

Who gets sent down when Ference is back, Hunwick or Boychuk? I say Hunwick based on what I have seen.

    Chara Wideman
    Stuart Morris
    Boychuk Ference.

  10. Haus says:

Id take Boynton right now, why not. Can always waive him again and he can play. Only question is if you do that, how much gets tacked on to the cap? I think the only reason PC hasnt made a deal is because the prorated cap number of the guys he has asked about cant fit for another month. You would have to waive Hunwick or Boychuk if you tried to send either down, they are on one-way contracts. Thats why ANH waived Boynton.

Figures – just heard that PC is pursuing Tkaczuk? That all we need – another over the hill no-gas-in-the-tank long past-his-prime peice of baggage. And this will help???

  12. ELWOPPO says:

bruins looking to trade for Keith Tkachuk …….lol
Give me a fucken break chia? This guys gonna be 38 in march! And his numbers are nothing great this year! Come on really? Cant we do better than that?

  13. Bruins says:

where are the tkachuk rumours from?

  14. bruinsfanupnorth says:

on nesn website regarding tkachuk. go figure.

  15. Peggy Sue says:

I would venture to guess that the Bruins have played no more than 10 games this year when they had a full lineup. No wonder Chia is finding it difficult to make a trade. He actually does not know what he has and has been unable to do a proper evaluation. It just seems that this team is destined to be on the outside looking in this year.

As much as I would like PC to make a major trade (not the pure crap deals for over-aged vets), part of me wants to see exactly what we have.

I for one believe this team, when healthy and firing on all cylinders, can do severe damage if they make the playoffs. However it seems that that may be a pipe dream this year as when we take one step forward, we take two steps back. The snowball effect of the injuries is exacting a toll on the players, management and the fans and I suspect that we are nearing the breaking point for all parties.

    • Bruins says:

agree 100%. and its not even 10 games. we had a “fully” healthy lineup for the first 5 games before lucic and savard went down, but at that time krejci was rushed back from his injury, so he was out of it for the first 10-15 games or so.

after that we havent had a single game with a healthy lineup. and the timing is ridiculous. things like: bergeron goes down for a few weeks, then comes back but…BAM! sturm goes down for a few weeks, then comes back but…BAM! stuart goes down for a few weeks… it’s a vicious cycle.

    • Bruins says:

meh, well he would be cheap (UFA, and the blues wouldnt be asking for much)and would help a bit. still, id prefer a guy like ray whitney.

  16. Hilroy says:

The Bruins must take 4 out of 6 points this week (Wash, Habs & Canucks) and then take 5 out of 8 next week (Habs, Sabres, Lightning & Panthers)to have any chance. Less than that and they are done. Even if they take 9 out of 14 they will be lucky to make it. The time is now and the clock is ticking PC.

sources say that LA is “close to bringing in two impact players”

i thought kovy didnt want a hotmarket?

losangeles is sort of a popular place no?

    • Bruins says:

i never heard about kovalchuk saying anything about that.

this is pretty interesting. im thinking kovalchuk and kozlov. and with the kings having the best prospects in the league, im sensing a good old fashioned raping by the thrashers here.

  18. da wreck says:

haha. The greed’s paying off, Phil.

    On the Bruins…

Meanwhile, Boston is having discussions with Colorado about Svatos, St. Louis about Tkachuk, and Dallas about Modano.

Modano has said he wanted to retire a Star (who doesn’t) but remember the Bruins are a tempting option here…more than Ottawa, who also has interest in Modano.

    From HockeyBuzz

Modano, Tkachuk….let’s sign Chelios too !

    • Bruins says:

nah to modano. i remember he was unbelievably close to signing with the bruins coming out of the lockout, so im sure he wants to be here, but he’s clearly over the hill.

      tkachuk? meh…average.

svatos is actually somewhat interesting. people will see his stats this year and run the other way, but he has proven to be a very solid goal scorer over the course of his career and is only 27. he has been given no opportunities in colorado this year either.

he’s a UFA at season’s end, and can probably be had for nothing more than a late round pick. if he doesnt work out, no harm done. trying him out on savard’s wing with lucic opening up space for him is worth the shot.

      • pearson says:

svatos is the only interesting piece there… modano and tkachuck? where would you put them? we already have an old guy that can carry his weight.

we need a differance maker! any word on horton? i havent heard that name in awhile?

  20. nick says:

I’m not going to compare the skill level of Tkachuk to Recchi but look at the boost the Bruins got when they picked up Recchi. Veteran guy coming into the locker room may help the chemistry and moral of the team, it also wont hurt that he is excited to be back in Boston.

This is by no means a move that will make us a cup contender but I think this might be a great move to shake up the team. Much better than a new coach.

  21. nick says:

Sorry I used the word “us”… I’m a fan not part of the organization, I usually get irritated reading comments that use words like We, Us, Our…I guess I’ll be more tolerant from now on when I read.

  22. Bruins says:

for tkachuk and modano, theres certainly benefits to getting them. they still are capable (albeit over the hill), but add leadership.

i dont see horton moving anymore. he’s finally starting live up to his potential and contract. he’ll be the cornerstone in florida along with booth
