Thomas on the block?

According to the Toronto Sun, Peter Chiarelli has been taking calls about Tim Thomas.  Thomas will be a very difficult piece to move, especially because he has a no movement clause.  Chiarelli signed Thomas to a terrible 4 year 20 million dollar deal last season and it appears he may already be regretting that decision. Here is what the Sun had to report:

“While it would have been unthinkable when Thomas was signed to a four-year, $20-million (all terms US) contract extension last spring, two league executives confirmed to the Sun on Saturday that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has held talks with teams looking for goaltending help.”

bye bye T.T i appreciate what you have done but it’s time!! We need to at least get a top 6 forward and possibly a pick but we may have to pick up some of his salary…

    • Thomas Sucks Balls says:

do you not realize that almost every team in the league has a better goalie than him already, hes old and is owed a shitload over the next 4 years. id trade him for a 3rd round pick if we can even get that. The only way we are getting a top 6 forward is if its a salary dump. I say we take whatever draft pick we can get for him and get his salary out of here and go after kovy in the off season

      • BosBrn77 says:

See the trophy he got last year? The entire team around him is not playing well, but still Boston has one of the lowest goals against in the league!

“almost every team in the league has a better goalie than him already” is a STRETCH!

      • zvic says:

you are an idiot! Tim is still a top golie in the NHL and the US olympic team thought he was good enough to make the team! I would hate to see him go but he costs a lot and Rask is ready for the job which means we would have cap room to sign a goal getter

      • bergylu77 says:

dude go somewhere else and be a fairweather fan… i would hate to see tim go after all he has done for this team. and good point zvic… usa thought he was still pretty damn good

      • goosegoose says:

yea a goalie with a sub 2.5 gaa is so bad. He can easily go to washington and win himself a cup because that’s all the caps need is a real good goalie. Maybe we can get Semin in return.

      • Leafstank says:

        its tuukka time fellas…

    • Thomas Sucks Balls says:

if u ask for semin for thomas, washingtons front office will die from laughing so hard. They have Vralarmov who did amazing in last years playoffs. Thomas got that award last year cuz his stats were good because the bruins defense was the best in the league. Just look at the numbers manny fernandez put up for the majority of the year. bottom line is good players and teams make thomas look ridiculous. His unorthodox style will never allow a team to make the cup. He blew it for us last year and he will do it again wherever he goes. Look at his numbers on breakaways and shoot outs. all you people see is his spectacular jimmy craig like saves and u listen jack edwards make thomas sound like the best goalie in the nhl. If thomas was ever in the right postition hed never have to make those saves, hes never on angle and he doesnt move very well either. the only thing he does well is flop on the ice. Tuukka is clearly the better goalie and boston should of trusted his stats from the ahl to think that our young goalie would soon be able to handle the load with the B’s before giving a sloppy soon to be back up goalie 5 million a year for 4 more years

  2. jm says:

yea we need to get rid of thomas the salary will kill us for years to come

  3. backbruin says:

Thomas and a 2nd/3rd rnd pk for barker and sharpe

  4. psands says:

sad to say, but if he can be moved, he needs to be moved.

his cap space would be huge for us next year, and i would be more than comfortable with a duo of rask and auld/biron.

he is still a good goalie, and even though his contract is expensive, i am now a big believer that anybody can be moved.

  5. BosBrn77 says:

    This was on Spector’s….

The Boston Bruins might be on the verge of trading all-star goaltender Tim Thomas, who has struggled this season. Two league executives confirm Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has spoken to teams seeking goaltending help. Thomas has a “no-trade” clause but his affordable $5 million per season contract would make him attractive on the trade market. The Blackhawks are likely to add a goaltender but would have to bury Cristobal Huet’s salary in the minors to take on Thomas. The Stars, Blue Jackets and Blues could be in the market but Garrioch believes the asking price would be a top six forward, a top four blueliner and a backup goalie

I doubt we would get that much back. But what about the rumors in Washington, saying they are looking for goaltending help. Thomas for Theodore and a prospect or pick? Theodore’s contract is up after the end of the season.

  6. Birdman2403 says:

Don’t want to see Thomas go however, you want something good….you have to give something good.

The names that are being batted around Tkachuk, Nolan ( Are you serious ??), won’t help the B’s. You trade a guy like Thomas and you get impact guys back. Thomas to Chicago ,in my opinion is real.

Chicago, I would think are all or nothing this year. They can worry about salary in the off season.

  7. gibbz says:

i’d like to see barker and sharp in a b’s uniform and thomas in a blackhawks

  8. gibbz says:

ryder, thomas for sharp, barker? chicago would get about 2mil more in salary

    • BosBrn77 says:

Chicago has little cap space. They have been talking about shedding salary for next year, so that will not work.

It has been mentioned that Chicago could bury Huet in the minors.

Thomas, Morris, Sobotka and a pick for Barker and Versteeg or Sharp.

  9. backbruin says:

I thought i would see some kind of move this weekend and nothing. I’m not sure if he’s going to do something this week or not, i think they are allowed to at least talk to other teams during the break.

I don’t know i’m just sick of going into every shootout knowing we lose!!!I’m not sure about you guys but they need to look like they want to score on the shootouts…It’s like they don’t care either way!!!wheeler had the grand canyon to go between loungo’s leg on his chance but tried to stuff it post side….krejci shot it right at loungo and bergeron’s “move” is not going to work again since every goalie knows what he does….

what the fk is satan there for..shouldn’t he be good at something?????what did we get him for??? this isn’t peewee hockey C.L who cares who wins the shootouts in practise..put someone out there that will score when it counts!!

  10. jimmy50 says:

Thomas is far from the issue. Ference and Stuart have missed time. Chara is playing hurt. Wideman and Hunwick have been playing like shit. Young D-Men like Boychuck, McQuaid, and Wozneiweski have played significant time. And the OFFENSE CAN’T SCORE!

    • Birdman2403 says:

No Jimmy it isn’t Thomas’s fault. However, he is good and can get value back. Like I said, you want something good in return you have to trade some talent.

The other shit trades that are rumoured are useless….Tkachuk, Kariya, Nolan….

  11. backbruin says:

I’m not saying it’s T.T’s fault whatsoever, and truthfully if our guys could score his trade value would be very very attractive..what i am saying is that we need scoring and we have a capable guy to fill in so let’s dump some of that 5 million which teams will actually find attractive as it’s through the 2012 season whether he’s 35 years old or not teams will like the vezina trophy winner at that price..

    time will tell!

  12. Hammer says:

TT will go if he is traded to a contender like Chicago. TT is a stand up guy and the B’s have been good to him.

  13. Bzibziak says:

How about Thomas & 2nd rd pick to chicago for Barker and Versteeg.

Then trade Hamil, and Sobtoka to Edmonton for Coligiano.

    Sturm for Clowe

I truly like Wideman and people need 2 get off his back and stop bashing him. the plus/minus thing for him is so over-rated. He was a -2 againt montreal because he is on the Pk. He had nothign to do with the goals allowed that game. He was on the opposite side

    • BosBrn77 says:

It will take more then that to get Barker and Versteeg. But both would look awesome in Black and Gold.

Not sure if Sturm will waive his NM clause.

But even if that does work, we still have an abundance of forwards for 12 spots. You would be removing 2 forwards from the team and adding 3 back. So who else would they move, and for what?

    • bruinsfanupnorth says:

I thought wideman was starting to play better but over the last couple of games he has been part of the problem. If you go back to montreal game, on the Hamrlick goal he was standing beside the guy who was screening rask and did nothing to move the guy out of the way. In the game yesterday on the play when lucic overskated the puck, him and hunwick both left the front of the net at the same time. when the shot came in there was only two players there for 30 feet. rask and the vancouver guy. In a game where you are up 2-1 with five minutes left you have to be more defensive minded than that.

    • jmoney says:

you dont get minus for being on the PK. wideman isn’t the worst but he sucks for over 4 million. sorry he blows.

  14. Bruins4life 13 says:

thomas was one of the worst deals since we signed Zhamonov we should trade him to st louis for paul kariya and chris mason but tim wont waive his nm claus for STL only for CHI SJ WAS teams like that but only chi needs goalie help so i could see thomas and a 2nd for anntii neimi and pat sharp

  15. Bzibziak says:

trade the left-over sfor picks or for insurance policies.

As much as I love Savard and his contract. Boy would I love to get Eric Stall or some other Top Gun Forward to be our #1 man. Savard is great but isnt elite. He cant carry a team on his own. Stall can and has.All the elite team have a top guy. Pittsburg= Crosby Wash= Ovehckin NJ= Parise/Brodeur and KOvy
Ott= Spezza & Alffy. We miss the top guy. Boston has a bunch of good guys, not great and this is why we are struggling right now. My untouchables would be :
Bergeron, Krecji, Wheeler, Lucic & Rask. After that anyone cna be had for the right price.

I think Boston would be better off with trading Chara and getting something huge in return. U could get a top 6 forward and top 4 d-man for him. How about(not likely) but Chara to LA for Johnson, Kopitar and 1st rd pick?

    • RG617 says:

      Garbage, from top to bottom.

    • #4 says:

Woah that would be bad, to trade savard and chara.

Its not either of them we need wingers, arguably one of the deepest down the center teams in the league. Savvy Berg Krejci Sobotka/Begin however we got no speed and talent on the wings, Lucic is first line talent you kidding me.

That was what kessel gave us, its also what were missing this season. Its not a total team overhaul that were missing just a star winger. Wheeler was suppose to be better than he turned out to be and its hurting us.

    • zvic says:

thank God you are not the GM of Boston… trade a norris winning defensemen? are ____ing insane! he is a #1 d-man on ANY team in the NHL and what has Lucic done this year? no fights, no hits and oh yeah no points! Boston’s D is not the problem we are not scoring! that is our forwards jobs! I would only keep savard, Bergeron, Sturm, and krejki up front and the rest can go! Our D is fine and so is our goaltending. look at the numbers, goals against are not the problem.

    • mcpuck says:

      Crap Crap Crap.

Savard IS Elite, and his numbers back that up. This season has been a rough one for him, but since the Lockout, only Thornton has more assists, and he’s been consistently in the top 10% of the league in scoring (if not higher).

His salary is short money considering there are a lot of other players out there getting paid more to do less. Put a goal scorer on his line, and you’ll be picking your jaw up off the floor at the stat lines.

  16. Bruins30th says:

OMG!!! A post on this site not about Kovalchuk!!! Pigs are flying!!!

  17. RG617 says:

Versteeg is a UFA after this season, so don’t expect him to fetch all that much. The amount of people looking to trade Sturm is ludicrous considering the scoring issue. His cap hit isn’t that big of a deal for his production. Ryder, on the other hand…

    • BosBrn77 says:

Versteeg was signed to a two year extension, and even after that he is still a RFA.

I would not trade Sturm. Not to mention his NMC.

  18. Elgin_73 says:

What a load of garbage. The ‘Et Le Buts’ of this world were raised on such rubbish. Just read what what Mike Boone of just wrote –

What a difference a year makes!
Super Bowl Sunday 2009 was not a good day for your Montreal Canadiens. They wore those hideous barber-pole unis. They lost Robert Lang and Guillaume Latendresse to injuries.Boston, en route to winning the Eastern Conference, laid on a 3-1 thumping before everyone went home to watch the Steelers win a thriller. Boston is at the Bell Centre this afternoon.
The Bruins are not winning the East, and the Canadiens are not wearing vintage drag. Our heroes are coming off a dominant win over the Stanley Cup champions, a W keyed by three Hamilton call-ups: Ryan White, Brock Trotter and David Desharnais.

What a crock of Hab propaganda!! They are so full of themselves. Although I have serious doubts about my beloved Bruins after seeing them go winless in 10, I hope and pray that they can somehow take 2 from the Habs today. Go Bruins Go!!! It’s time to revert back to the future and be the Big Bad Bruins. The Habs are ripe for the taking – The time IS NOW!!

  19. backbruin says:

Well this may be the biggest game of the year for us..we’re what 3-4 points behind MTL and we have 3 games in hand…We need to go 3-1 this week no matter what…

time to buck up bruins, and show us what your made of against your biggest rival!! don’t let us down!

  20. #4 says:

Just finished watching the Pitt/Wash game. Wow… Just wow.. 5-4 Ovechikin almost had 4 goals.

Im pumped up lets go B’s They BETTER BE SHITTING FIRE OUT THEIR ASSES While they skate today. DO NOT GO 0-11 for chirsts sakes. 3-1 B’s today Wheeler, krejc, chara all score GO B’S GO

    • G cole says:

That game was incredible, but I’m RIPPED!!! Two minutes left in the game NBC interupts the game because of an explosion in ct nearby and never fucking went back to the game!

  21. backbruin says:

Well it will start with them playing physical…and i mean you chara and you lucic…time to look like you give a shit!!!

I wanna see big hitting action, that’s how we get ourselves out of this!!!

  22. Habhater says:

Rask in goal again today. Message being sent to Timmy? Trade perhaps?

  23. backbruin says:

    What was hunwick doing there????

omg awful read, what is he 8 years old!!!

  24. backbruin says:

    where’s krejci??

  25. backbruin says:

Apparently last night’s loss was a “straw the broke the camel’s back loss” and I was told the Bruins are now aggressively talking to teams. While I hate attaching times to rumors, the Bruins are going to make a move in the next 48 hours I was told. I was also told the Bruins are now the top of the pack for Ray Whitney. They also are in on Ponikarovsky and could get in on Owen Nolan should the Wild shift to seller mode..

2-0 lead boys, once again playing well. let’s finish these fk’s and get it going!!

  26. Habhater says:

Very efficient 1st period by the Bruins. However we now have the dreaded 2-0 lead. The next goal and period is Situation Critical for the Bruins.

So far the refs are not wearing their CH sweaters. I suspect that that will change. The Bruins must prevail. We will now see if the real Bruins are playing today or the make-believe team that has played the last 10 games.

  27. ELWOPPO says:

if we lose 2day im not watching hockey anymore!!!!!!!!! Plain and simple !!!!!!!

  28. Habhater says:

Still in Situation Critical. The Bruins psyche is fragile right now and we desparately need another goal. The way we have been playing lately – it’s next goal wins.

Wanna bet that the refs put their CH sweaters on this intermission?

  29. BosBrn77 says:

Boychuk out 7-10 days with broken orbital bone!

  30. backbruin says:

    T.T’s possibl;e destinations are..reported by CBC..Dallas,Washington,Chicago,St Louis!!!!!

    • BosBrn77 says:

Who would you take from any of those teams?

Chicago will not want to wreck the chemistry, but Sharp, Versteeg and Barker have all been mentioned in the rumor mill.

Who does Dallas have? They have cap space, so maybe a swap for picks and/prospects.

St. Louis has cap space as well and I doubt they move Backes, Boyes or Jackman even if we sweeten the deal.

Washington would need to move some cap back. Maybe take Theodore off their hands to back up Rask and have them add a pick or prospect?

Let’s hope something happens… and soon!

      • backbruin says:

well i can guarantee we wouldn’t take theodore back??he gets paid more then thomas????we want scoring, someone that can play with Savy…that is what we need

      • BosBrn77 says:

Theodore’s hit is 4.5 mil and Thomas is 5 mil. It would clear cap space for free agents next year. And have them toss in a pick or prospect.

      • backbruin says:

no thanks, we have to trade thomas for what we need which is offense not for a worse goalie and a prospect..i we have ebnough picks and prospects don’t you think!!!!

jesus they even said it on cbc that we need sopmeone to play with savy, if people don’t understand that by now then i’m afraid you aren’t watching what most of the world is watching!!!

trade thomas for Theodore and a prospect…bad idea bosbrn77 sorry but it is!!

      • BosBrn77 says:

I’m only saying it to rid the team of his salary for the off season to sign a free agent that would help.

I TOTALLY understand they need someone to play with Savard… trust me bro, I’m not blind! But I do not think Thomas brings back that player alone. By all means, if the Bruins add a prospect and another player, I say do it. But to who? And who gives up what player that will help us?

Thomas is NOT going to bring us a Versteeg or sharp alone. Sorry… but he’s not!!

    • msavage says:

if tt goes to the blues it better be for boyes or oshie

we dont need another old man

  31. G cole says:

Wow what a garbage goal for sturm lol..

  32. backbruin says:

  33. Hammer says:

Streak is ended…now we have Buffalo Tuesday then down the Fla. before the break…take 2 of 3 and then regroup.

    Rask was great again today.

Hope Krejci isn’t out for long.

  34. BosBrn77 says:

San Jose picked up Wallin for the Hurricanes today.

Wallin and a 5th rounder to San Jose for a 2nd round pick.

So much for Wideman going for Clowe.

  35. Leafstank says:

trade thomas to st. louis and get Boyes back. haha. no joke though. Sturm- Bergy- Boyes on a line now, that would be scary good.

    • BosBrn77 says:

      Thomas and who for Boyes?

      • backbruin says:

you’re under estimating thomas 77…big time!!!it would be who are they giving us boyes and?

vezina winner….team usa…still with descent stats that would be better if we could score!!!the worst part of his stats are the win/loss ratio…9.15 save %2.52 gaa…on a team that has struggled and been injured…

you are wayyyy under valuing TT’s worth!!

      • backbruin says:

The Stars, Blues and Blue Jackets could be interested, though the price would be steep. Garrioch thinks they’d be able to get a top 6 forward, top 4 defenseman, and a backup goalie.

just some qoutes from rumor sites but way off from what you think his worth is!!brns77

      • BosBrn77 says:

No way St Louis give up Boyes AND something for a 35 year old. Look at what NJ gave up for Kovalchuk!! You think the Bruins could get similar for Thomas?! I love the guy and would not care if he stayed, but YOU are way off with what you think his worth is!

As for that quote…. look up, I posted it earlier!

    • Leafstank says:

yeah im pretty sure we would get a pretty damn good forward, a decent d man and a draft pick (kinda low draft pick)

  36. matt says:

Bruins won 3-0. Would have been 6-0 if we had Kovalchuk.

  37. mcpuck says:

Everyone who’s saying we can’t get anything for Thomas are thinking like Bruins fans who haven’t been happy with his output… but think about it from a team who needs an upgrade in net… he’s the reigning Vezina winner, he’s well above average in just about every Goaltending statistic, and teams know that the you can’t really blame a goalie when the team in front of him is averaging under 2 goals a game for long periods of time.

I think if they move Thomas, you’d be shocked at his value. 5 Mil is actually pretty cheap when you look at some other salaries out there… Giggy, Khabibulin, Huet, etc etc… these guys are all making 6, 7, 8 million per and they’re not as good as Thomas.

  38. #4 says:

Yup you cannot dangle nothing and expect to get nothing.

As a man and player TT is ona my favorites, I think he deserves to play on a contending team this year. I think that Thomas-Recchi Could net us some real return from a team like CHI that might be all or nothing this year. Thomas Recchi Pick For Versteeg Sharp Barker

  39. #4 says:

    Actually reconsidering,

Trade Thomas, trade recchi, trade Ryder without taking on much other cap in return, and then hope and pray you can sign Kovvy next year.

Thikn about how much depth a superstar winger adds.

  40. goosegoose says:

    Thomas for Nash

    • bruins 27 says:

will never happen. steve mason was great last year as a rookie. hes young and will turn it one is trading a young goal scorer and the best player on the team for a old goalie with a huge contract

  41. Andy says:

I can’t say we definitely trade TT, because they have a great thing going b/t the two, even though TT hasn’t been as sharp and Rask has taken over. Goaltending isn’t the issue, given that how many wins would they have had if we scored more than 1-2 fucking goals!! At the same time, though, he would bring exceptional trade value. As that newspaper said, possibly a top 6 forward and top 4 D, plus a pick (I would ask for a prospect, since we already have enough picks).

At this point, I think it’s more or less PC just feeling people out. I don’t see them trading TT this year (although the summer is a possibility), plus, what we all have to realize, TT has a NO TRADE CLAUSE. PC could talk to as many people as he wanted and have a deal on the table – would still need TT’s approval, although I think he’s enough of a stand up guy that if it really helped the B’s, he might do it, depending on where it was to.

The most amazing thing is throughout this whole losing streak, we are still only 4 pts out of SIXTH place! Hopefully, we can have a good week, get some rest during the break, and come back hungry. That’s what we’d have to do to get on a run to get into the playoffs and beyond!!

Here’s hoping they can put it together!!

  42. Jefe77 says:

    Thomas for Mario Lemieux

  43. Birdman2403 says:

Back on track….good God I really don’t know if I could handle another loss…..especially to the Habs ! Even if the B’s can win 2 of 3 this week, they would be in a good position after the break. Games in hand are great….if you win them !

  44. Bruins says:

good thing everybody is considering that rask should be able to perfectly handle the load and all the pressure that comes with being the no. 1 goalie after 25 games of experience

  45. Bruins says:

oh yeah, and how couldfernandeznot even land a job as a backup somewhere? he was sick last seaso

    • pearson says:

good point. just shootin from the hip here.. but uh… would it be that stupid to make him an offer? a guy to split time with a growing goalie, take a cheeeeeap contract because he cant get one elsewhere, and someone thats been around alot, been in boston, and can mentor tuuk?

      • Birdman2403 says:

Why don’t they just dress Essensa then. He’s alrady on the pay roll ! Fernandez was awful !

  46. msavage says:

some of you goof balls sound like habs fans

thomas is the perfect guy to break rask in

we dont need another price situation

if we should trade anyone we have plent of under achievers

    lucic, wheeler, krejci, ryder

    • Pearson says:

I disagree. Thomas is a great goalie aand he doesnt fit being on the bench watching rask. Hes expensive for our team and he deserves to be on a contending team going for a cup.

Tuuka is now, i dont think its his time to be everyday, but hes gotta play on a consistant basis.

    • Birdman2403 says:

I don’t get all the Wheeler underachieving talk. He is 8 goals and 7 assists off last years totals with 25 games to go ?????

  47. Jefe77 says:

Thomas and Chara have been the biggest underachievers this season. After that, I would say Ryder then Wheeler.

Lets hope they stop it before its too late.

  48. joe says:

I’ve come to the conclusion that most of the ppl commenting on how bad tim thomas is must be fair wheather fans and not watched the last 2 seasons, you know the season where tt was voted the best golies and he deserved to and the year before where he was excellent.
Go back and look at the goals in previous loses and check out how bad the b’s player around him, and how many goals he got to work with.
They were making jokes on tv of thomas goin to the caps and not having to worry about getting 1 or 2 goals a game. If he goes to the caps or hawks they win it all

  49. Dolo says:

I agree about Thomas. Even though he hasn’t been flawless this season, he has still played very good considering the way his team has been playing around him. I’ve got to say that Chara doesn’t deserve all the hate that is coming his way either. He consistantly shuts opponents down, but a team’s defense always looks a lot worse when their offense cannot help them out at all. Chara is on of the top Defensemen in the league and we would be even worse this season without him.

  50. ry.boychuk says:

why is rick nash not being involved in trade talks (honest question, am i missing something)….young premier goal scorer on a sh*t team in final year of his deal.
I absolutely love this kid, think he’d be an amazing fit here, would be open to resigning. If we could get the ok to negotiate before pulling the trigger, it could be the sniper off the wing we need to play with savvy.

  51. bruins 27 says:

Get thomas out of here, his record is awful, and tuukka has the best GAA in the NHL. and its not like thomas is really that much of an experienced vet that he needs to show tuukka the way. how many years has he even been a starter? hes already 35. Idn about you guys but i dont want tuukka picking up any pointers on his style of play from tim thomas

  52. Gcole says:

last year everyone was praising tim thomas like hes a god and now that the teams going through troubles you all want to trade him?? get real, we JUST signed the guy to a 4 year deal. keep him!! tuukka has been great, but he hasnt proved anything yet, dont sell your proven goalie and hope the rookie will take over no problems. look at how carey price and chris mason ended up, they were looked at as incredible and now they are just average. how do we know tuukka wont do the same? we dont! dont rush it

  53. Kurt says:

This contract will be a noose around Chia’s for a long time to come, we might as well keep Thomas and trade Rask. It’s not like Tank is a bad goal tender and we could get a top player for Rask.

  54. joe says:

you cannot base what rask did on just one game, remember before that he lost 2 strait shootouts. There is nothing wrong with Tim thomas he’s lost his way alittle bit, hes still one the best goal tenders in the nhl, and he will be again,
that being said if they can get someone to fill the net with pucks, tt has great trade value

  55. boston2213 says:

I think a lot of you are under estimating thomas. I understand hes frustrating to watch, and I want rask in net as our number 1 just as much as anyone. But you dont trade the vezina winner from last year for nothing, You need a big time goal scorer to go with savard, and you should get that for thomas, if you dont, you dont make the trade. You also need a back up goalie who can ACTUALLY STILL MAKE SAVES(not theodore) and mentor rask, because i think some of you forget rask really young still. Hes had a lot of good games, but lets not get to crazy about just throwing him out there. If thomas gets traded and they leave rask as the number 1 and the bruins go on another awful streak, im not interested in another andrew raycroft and messing up him mentally

    • BosBrn77 says:

No one is underestimating Thomas. We all respect him, but we have a young gun ready to make his mark. How long do we keep Rask in the shadows?

As for Theodore, I have never tried to say he was as good as Thomas…. even though he does have a Vezina and a HART to boot. But his contract is up after this season. As for making saves…. The Caps look pretty good with him in net. He isn’t THAT bad! Also, I mentioned Theodore because Washington is “rumored” to be in the running for Thomas. Who else are we going to get for Thomas? Semin? Doubtful! Backstrom? No way! It was just a name…. one whose salary matches up with Thomas’, but is also gone after the season.

  56. Jefe77 says:

Its easy for all the Thomas nay sayers to get away with bashing. Thomas is a good goalie who didnt win the Vezina by accident. He happens to be underachieving this season probably worse than anyone on the team, just a like a lot of players do after they sign a big contract.

  57. backbruin says:

It has nothing to do with under estimating Thomas, it has to do with getting optimum value for an aging goalie. I love T.T believe me, but what i have seen out of Rask and how calm he is, i haven’t seen a guy that calm in a long time..He is so relaxed and alot of analsyts/hockey guys are saying he is special so i think we would be just fine…You have to make deals before Thomas’s value goes down to much…I think he still has good value so let’s do it. Nobody has forgotten about his value to this team the last couple years but remember a lot of those games were like a rollercoaster watching him leave his net and have to make unbelievable saves because of his bad positioning…trade him now because his value will never be as high as it is now!!

    • BosBrn77 says:

Could not agree more. I love Thomas, and would like to see him stay in Boston…. IF we didn’t have Rask coming up. Although I do not feel his value is as high as others…. i do think it is at its peak. Do something now while we can get something. Not to mention moving his cap hit.

  58. Andy says:

I think the whole point here is, like trying to get rid of Ryder, Wideman and co, is cap space. If TT was making $2 mil, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. I don’t think anyone can seriously state that TT is washed up 8 months removed from winning the Vezina. Having said that, though, the only reason for moving him would be to clear cap space and/or give us someone, or a couple guys, that can help us in other needs (i.e. goal scoring).

I, for one, did not like the contract b/c TT was 35 and you had a potential #1 coming up behind him. I could see if we didn’t have anyone close to Rask, but we did. I didn’t see the point, although I understood that we HAD to re-sign him.

I think that PC should not let a trade deadline dictate whether he tries to move TT, not saying that he is. What I’m saying is why don’t we wait until the summer, when we have more time to evaluate ALL of our options? We may trade him, we may not, but at least we’re not feeling pressure to do either one.

However, this isn’t up to us, PC, Cam, or anyone else in the organization, because TT has a full no-trade. Keep that in mind…

  59. bruins 27 says:

The Boston Bruins might be trying to deal Tim Thomas, but thus far, he hasn’t been asked to waive his no-trade clause, the Boston Globe reports, and there might not even be a team willing to take on his contract.

Two league executives told the Ottawa Sun’s Bruce Garrioch that Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli has talked with teams needing goaltending help about Thomas, but CSN writes that he might be immovable.

CSN’s Joe Haggerty says, “No other team in the NHL would have given the 35-year-old goaltender the four-year, $20 million contract awarded to Thomas after his Vezina Trophy-winning season last winter. The pact was announced just as Thomas was putting the finishing touches on that season, and there was a healthy amount of sentimentality within the contract.”

Oh, but let’s fuel this boat a little. NESN’s James Murphy tweeted last weekend that he sat next to Blackhawks scouts in the press box, speculating that they may be looking at Thomas. Garrioch predicts the Blackhawks might be interested, if they’re willing to send Cristobal Huet to the minors to get his contract off the books.

  60. mcpuck says:

For the Last fucking time, some of the best Goalies in the history of this league were given a hard time about their non-conventional play. Hasek was an ugly goaltender… he won 40 games into his 40’s, and despite all the crap people give him to this day about being a poor positional goalie, he has 7 vezina’s and a couple of rings.

Broduer? He’s about as odd a goalie as their is… he isn’t Butterfly, Hybrid, Standup… he plays the Broduer style.

Thomas gets wins. He makes the tough saves. Position is something anyone can learn… as someone who’s played goalie at the lowest, and I mean lowest levels, I’m familiar with all the little kid tricks like strings on the posts to help improve positional play…

get off your high horse because you think Thomas sucks and look at the #’s… he’s a top 10 goalie even at 35, and despite your revelation that he plays poor position, he’ll continue to play well for a few more years.

    • bruins 27 says:

by the way look at thomas’s record. he doesnt get wins

    • bruins 27 says:

and a goalie who is 35 years old isnt going to learn positioning. he plays every odd man rush like its a one on one and completely forgets about the back door guy and comes way to far out his crease. By the way we also have possibly the best young goalie in the league. look at his numbers. way more wins than thomas in far less games. Next year thomas will be a 5 million dollar door opener. The front office knows that and the rest of the league knows it. If we cant trade him, he will be a back up next season and then we will buy out his remaining contract

  61. bruins 27 says:

hasek was fast and extremely flexible he was also quick to make up for his mistakes. he won stanley cups and is probably one of the top goalies of all time , the only way you can compare thomas to hasek is they both have stupid helmets and like to flop around. One is a hall of famer and the other is an old bum who didnt make the pro’s till he was 31.

  62. bruins 27 says:

and jack edwards was an espn commentator, they got rid of him because he is a retard. he never played hockey and he has no idea what hes talking about. Thomas sucks and the bruins will trade him for whatever they can get. If hes traded it will be for a player will a huge contract who doesnt produce or puts up average numbers at best or a low draft pick

  63. bruins 27 says:

All of theese goalies would be better than thomas due to there stats, age and contract, once again thomas sucks

    Toronto 2011 1st round pick

    to COLUMBUS for…

    Rick Nash
    Mike Commodore

Then Chiarelli goes after an Auld or Biron or someone… That is a good trade for both sides and makes the most sense for the Bruins.
