Big game tonight

Tonight’s game against Atlanta is huge for the Bruins if they hope to gain some ground on the team directly below them in the standings.  Atlanta has won four in a row and is only one point behind the 8th seeded Bruins. Despite trading away superstar Ilya Kovalchuk, Atlanta has some heart and are still in excellent position to make a push for the playoffs.  If the Bruins were to win tonight’s game they could possibly be only 3 points out of the 5 seed.

The expected lineup is below. Tuukka Rask is expected to start in goal.

Sturm-Bergeron-Recchi

Wheeler-Krejci-Ryder

Lucic-Sobotka-Satan

Paille-Begin-Thornton

This game is huge, and even a bigger game for Atlanta. Expecting a playoff type match. 2-0 Bruins. Lucic scores the game winner to make up for ruining Tuukka’s SO last game.

  2. jcarb23 says:

Lets hope the bruins can carry their energy over from sunday against the rangers.Keep it goin boys!!!Lets go bruins!!

  3. #4 says:

Im expecting Big games outta Sobotka, Lucic, Wheeler, Krejci, Bergeron, Siedenberg and Boychuck(and of course TUUUUUUUUK)

If one or a few of those guys fails to show up and atlanta brings their A game it could be a long night in net for Tuuka.

  4. #4 says:

BTW anybody notice how god awful Chara looked last game???? What has been happening with him some times he looks like a riegning Norris Trophy winner sometimes he’s worse than wideman.

On sunday some guy a few rows behind me kept Yelling “TRADE BAIT” every time chara touched the puck. Got me thinking do we really need him? What has he brought to the table lately? And would he be able to nab another good Dman and Forward in a trade??? IDK he better start showing up or he(to me) would be the 10ton elephant in the room for the bruins when the trade freeze is over.

    • ELWOPPO says:

That is the most ridiculas statement ive heard in my life! Chara is the raining norris trophy winner and is the BEST overall defenceman in the league! Lets see you play with a dislocated finger, See how well you do? Come on fella, Use your brain!

      • #4 says:

Yeah well I never wouldve thought of it either if that guy never kept screaming it in my ear.

Dont yell at me to use my brain im just pondering here. Ive also played with a broken wrist in a cast! So i know how hard those injuries can make it to be an “offensive impact”. But you cant blame his finger for his 12 turnovers last game(exageration) but you get my point. He just doesnt seem like the “CHARA” of last year. Im still not exactly buying cop out of the biggest toughest guy in the league is being completely handicapped by an “owie” on his pinky finger.

You saw how well he played in the olympics.

      • backbruin says:

He hasn’t played like the toughest guy in the league this year, and even last year when he won the Norris he wasn’t as tough as he was the year before!!

The thing is you need him against the O.V’s and the Crosby’s as he does well at shutting them down, and most teams can’t boast that!

I would love to see his mean side come out as the team will feed off that and i think have been looking for him to do as he is our “C”.

      • TheBellEnd says:

Elwoppo we have had our differences before, but here i agree with you completely…#4, once again you are proving that you simply are a fucking retard…what in the good god damn FUCK are you talking about…

A guy (sorry, ENTIRE TEAM) has an off year and you think we should trade him…idiot…you’re a fucking idiot

      • #4 says:

Bell End Shut your fucking face you faggot.

You dont know shit about hockey im guessing thats why you never post except to try to insult me. I bet your cock is 2cm long and 100cm wide you chodey homo.

Im sorry that I have a brain and can think about things without resorting to calling other people homos or retards. You are so fucking stupid your feeble little mind cant even handle that concept. Shut the fuck up.

      • TheBellEnd says:

But you just called me a faggot….and insulted the size of my penis….

Didn’t you say that you didn’t have to resort to calling people names?

Also…the reason I make fun of you is because I truly believe you must be a fucking retard to suggest that our best defenseman had better step it up or we’ll trade him….

Ray Bourque had a few off years…Lidstrom is having an off year…this shit happens…

So you, kind sir…should be the one shutting the fuck up seeing as you don’t know shit about hockey…

PS, my 2cm dick seems to good enough for your mother…

        I love you

    • Gcole says:

yea ive been paying attention to Z lately and half of the time he stand by the goalie and watches hid D partner chase down everyone, and makes half hearted attempts to go after the opposing forward with the puck, but when he has the puck its like hes playing keepaway and he has been doing a great job there. kinda funny sometimes he just pivots on one leg while they skate around a huge circle trying to get on the other side of him

  5. Baltimore Bruins Fan says:

Big game for the boys tonight! Thanks for posting the lines again Pekese.

  6. Edski says:

Here is a thought for tonight. Do the Thrashers have any inforcers….NO can we please out hit these guys. We win the battles int hte corners and infront of the net we win easy enough. Hitting creates turn overs.

    Sturm and Ryder score

    • #4 says:

Yeah but if the other team isnt physical at all you can count out the bruins physical game. Thats one problem I have with the B’s ths year is they just play down to everyone else’s level.

But I think you can expect a good lucic hit or two regardless.

  7. Edski says:

I am thinking that there needs to be some hits in the neutral zone to slow the thrashers down. We need to keep from for cleanly entering our zone.

Begin gets a point tonight btw he is due

  8. Birdman2403 says:

I have to work tonight and miss the game…shit ! I say B’s getting some mojo going….4-1 !!

  9. mook says:

i say the flyers lose 8 of their last 10.

  10. mook says:

hey let’s not be too upset at thomas. even though he’s not playing, i still give him some credit for tuukka’s play. same thing with fernandez last year…

this is the best thing for tuukka right now (and not having some kid as his backup. see: pekka rinne, raycrap, etc).

    • Bruins says:

It’s going to be very key come playoff time. No other team in the league has an effective goaltending tandem besides Montreal, and it’s nowhere close to Boston’s.

What happens if Miller stumbles? If Brodeur stumbles? The B’s have the luxury of having two go-to guys.

      • mook says:

same can be said for washington and pittsburgh. well, fleury is a beast but washington has no goaltending. they score at-will though…

    • #4 says:

Who said anything about thomas? I agree that having the Rask – Thomas combo is a great thing that no other teams have.

But I dont think thats enough to beat a team like washington that as you said “scores at will”. If the b’s glide into the playoffs in the 8th seed I thikn there biggest chance would be Chara owns Ovechkin and Theodore shits the bed hardcore. Or if they grab the 7th Seed I see a fight to the death 7game series with pittsburg!! Thats what i really want ( i just hope theyd win it)

      • Bruins says:

Thomas is capable of being the best goalie in the league though. His thing this year is incosistency. He’s shown flashes of his game last year, but hasn’t been able to do it consistently. Should Rask stumble, we have Thomas in waiting in the wings.

While WSH’s offense is dominating, remember that we have the 3rd best defense in the league, and I’d expect it to go to no. 2 with Rask playing the rest of the way. Our league-best PK counter-acts their league-best PP. And you never know what you’ll get with Theodore and that defense, so our offense might have a chance.

We also have the benefit of being a much better road team than at home. While that may not be a big plus against a ridiculous home-team like WSH, it would come in very handy against others.

  11. mook says:

the bruins are going to make those 17 people in the stands go home disappointed.

  12. #4 says:

haha lol I would take those seats for free anyday just let me know if you need fillers atlanta!

But they look good so far nice save by tuuka, good work by boychuk. But I hope sobotka is ok just shaken up that hit looked like it hurt.

    GO BS SCORE ALLREADY!!

  13. Bruins says:

    KREEEEECH!

  14. Bruins says:

    fuck! almost another one!

  15. mook says:

ryder is snakebit. he really needs to lay-off the screech.

  16. Bruins says:

krech and looch, and the B’s in general have been lights out tonight. wideman is the only one having a bad game

  17. Bruins says:

tuuk reminds me of brodeur. not flashy but always makes the saves

  18. willisss says:

    tuukka mother.fucking. rask

  19. #4 says:

Hey despite the 4 goals on Hedberg he is standing on his freaking head this should be like 8-0 ATL has just completely quit.

  20. #4 says:

Jack I think you say it An-tro-pov not Ant-re-pov its just starting to erk me for some reason lol

  21. Bruins says:

rask is now up to over a .930 save % and leads the league in both GAA and save %. beeeeeast

    • Bruins says:

2.02 GAA. ridiculous. we now have back to back years of that happening with two different goalies if/when rask keeps this up

  22. G cole says:

Well well I say don’t change a dam thing with the lines and hope no one else gets injured and it’s looking good!

  23. mook says:

    great night!

Bruins win: 3pt cushion into the playoffs, gain on habs, flyers and habs.

flyers lose: bruins only 1 pt back of them now with 2 games in hand.

leafs lose to florida: florida goes up on toronto by 7 pts, with 10 games left. toronto has 9 games left. florida’s magic number is over toronto is 5.5 games. toronto’s chances of catching them are slim.

carolina vs. tampa: hopefully it is a 3pt game. that would seriously fuck with the leaf’s plans of not coming in last in the east. right now (2-1 carolina, 3rd period) both these teams have a magic number of 7 to finish ahead of the leafs. one of them will go down to 6 games.

bruins getting tyler seguin magic number as of right now: 7

(assuming he goes #2, that is).

    • Jefe77 says:

Exactly what we needed to start off the regular season playoffs. How many times have you watched a lower seed in last 10-12 games catch fire going in? We just need a few guys to start playing to their potential and I think they could unseat a higher seed.

In a perfect Bruins world the B’s play Pitt and angst for Cooke develops into a taste for Penguin blood.

Willis said it best a few threads ago, you DON’T want the Bruins to miss the playoffs. There is nothing better than playoff hockey and this team has something to take from last years run.

  24. Pearson says:

Get tuuka outta there. Hes shown he cant carry this team…………..

Kidding. Hopefully this is a big moral boost and we get hot going into the playoffs.

Im really hoping my playoff beard gets real caveman like this year.

  25. Gcole says:

    leafs lost! beautiful! keep losing!!

  26. bruinsfanupnorth says:

leafs lose and carolina and tampa tie. They are now 5 pts up.

    • Bruins says:

wow talk about a perfect night lol. it even helps that tampa won as they have less wins than caroina as the first tie-breaker

  27. Edski says:

Good night for the bruins and the race that is around them. I hope that Thursday is this good. Btw the bruins as a team are now -1.

  28. Andy says:

Good night, boys! As was said, B’s 3 & 7 pts up on ATL & NYR respectively. 1 pt behind PHI & MON w/ a game in hand!

Also, big win by FLA and huge that both CAR & TB got pts.

Although it sucks that Sobotka got injured, I liked the fact that they switched Bergy & Krecji. Seems like the Wheels-Bergy-Ryder line worked well, same for Lucic-Begin-Satan & Sturm-Krecji-Recchi.

The big thing is that we have 6 @ home the rest of the way and we’ve been a better road team. B’s HAVE to get better @ home. Let’s go on Thurs vs TB!!

  29. Haus says:

I heard rumblings that if Calgary miss the playoffs they may blow it up and deal Iginla. Sorry no link but man would he be great in the Black n Gold.

  30. Haus says:

I also want to mention Ference has been very good since his return. That being said I dont think he will return next year I think the Bruins go for a cheaper alternative to gather dollars for a big time forward.

  31. willisss says:

Bruins close to signing 8 players

  32. mook says:

EDMONTON JOURNAL: David Staples recently commented on a Boston Globe rumor claiming the Oilers had offered up forward Dustin Penner and Tom Gilbert to the Bruins for the rights to the Toronto Maple Leafs first round pick in 2010 which the Bruins acquired last fall in the Phil Kessel trade. Staples wonders if that offer came before or after the Oilers dealt Lubomir Visnovsky and Denis Grebeshkov. Staples considers Penner a better trade chip for the Oilers than Ales Hemsky but is ambivalent over trading either one.

Dan Barnes meanwhile yesterday reported on the possibility of the Oilers trading Hemsky in the off-season, based on the same Globe rumor which also suggested the Oilers might offer up Hemsky in an attempt to land the Leafs pick, speculating the Oilers would also have to take on a player like Michael Ryder in return.

EDMONTON SUN: Robert Tychkowski yesterday reported forward Mike Comrie appears to be the odd man out on the Oilers roster as the default scratch whenever head coach Pat Quinn wants to look at a younger player. Tychkowski believes Comrie will find work somewhere next season as there’s always jobs for inexpensive forwards who are still capable of scoring twenty goals in a season.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was adamant about not moving the Leafs first round pick and it’ll take a hell of an offer to pry it out of him by the June entry draft. I doubt Penner or Hemsky will be enough to do it. It’s possible however the Oilers could shop one of those two in hopes of landing higher picks, prospects or promising young players. As for Comrie, sounds like he won’t be returning with the Oilers after this season.

    • #4 says:

Lmfao Henmsky or Penner??? For a 2nd overall pick HAHAHAHHAHA gtfo edmonton lmfao.

Hey how about Wideman, and Ryder for your 1st overall pick while we try and make stupid offers.

Peter just hold onto this pick and pray, to it everynight before you go to bed. You will get your #1 scorer in the draft next year (as long as it all pans out)

  33. mook says:

The Boston Bruins have signed defenceman Andrew Ference to a three-year contract extension worth $2.25 million per season.

  34. #4 says:

Why sign the glass man to 3 years?>??

  35. Bruins fan upnorth says:

If only he could stay healthy the Ference signing would be a decent signing.
