Oh My, What a Game

I was there last night, and boy was I lucky.  Best game I have ever been to.  The Garden was rocking from the Krejci goal on.

Tuukka Rask is the real deal.  I thought he could go Carey Price on us, but he is so composed in net and nothing rattles him.  He makes hard saves look easy.  Put a S on his chest, because he looked like superman stuffing Mike Grier in the 3rd.  Ryan Miller was equally up to the task, making ungodly saves on Miro the hero and Bergeron in OT.

The Bruins looked flat for most of the game, only looking good from about the beginning to the 3rd until Bergeron scored.  Buffalo was killing them after the Bergy goal, but they got into OT.  Blake Wheeler could have ended it on a SH breakaway, but shot it and Miller stoned him.  Satan had the entire net after a rebound on a Hunwick wrister, but Miller swiped the glove hand and snagged the win away.

After Lucic’s chest breaking slap shot, the Bruins were on the other side of a too many men on the ice penalty.  Michael “don’t call me Ovechkin” Ryder skated end to end, and fed a beautiful pass to Satan.  Satan could have tried and ripped a wrister, but he out waited Miller and slid the puck between Miller, Sturm and the Sabres D into the back of the net. Victory.  The Garden erupted and the crowd went wild.  Fittingly, Tuukka Rask got the assist.

This had to be one of the best games since maybe the Game 6 Montreal game two years ago, and this may have topped it.  It’s unfortunate the B’s have not been successful since the late 80s, early 90s, because this city is a hockey town.  The future is bright, with Hall/Seguin coming and Rask in net.  Nothing beats playoff hockey.

i was also there. greatest game i have ever seen in person.

  2. JRy says:

So 10 year deal for tuukka? Haha I just really hope the bruins will be able to score enough to win this series and move further down the line.

  3. #4 says:

“Ruff praised Tyler Ennis, Cody McCormick and Patrick Kaleta for their energy in Wednesday’s game and his whole team for being “the more physical team.” Then he took a shot at energetic Bruins forward Vladimir Sobotka, who was targeted for good checks often Wednesday, referring to him as “that little Sobotka who’s ducking now, doesn’t want to get hit by Ennis (5-foot-9, 146 pounds) now.”

WOW Does anybody else think that this degenerate classless whiny douchebag could suck dick any harder???

Right I know exactly what hit Ruff was talking about and too, it was coming high and fast if it landed it woulda been a boarding most likely. So, OF COURSE SOBS DUCKED IT!!! IF it was his player he’d be saying what a good move to avoid the hit. This guy is an A-hole and a hypocrite I cant stand anything that comes out of his mouth and I want Julien to pull his shirt over his head and smash his face in!

    • mook says:

      100% agree

    • bruinsfanupnorth says:

lol ruff is one coach i cant stand. he whined about the refs after the game particulary on the call when kaleta hit lucic. didnt hear him say anything about the penalty on lucic hit which definitely shouldnt have been a penalty.

    • North B says:

      check out tough guy Ruff..

    • bbears24 says:

haha just read that, and i remember the play also…probably would of been a charging call since ennis was in a dead sprint for him from the blue line, surprised he didn’t knock himself out of the game with how hard he hit the boards.

  4. jimmy50 says:

Had to work up until game time but would have loved to go. I was at game 6 v. Montreal and I don’t think any game will top that until we play some Stanley Cup games.

  5. G cole says:

New jerseys done! Bet they’re glad to have traded for kovy!!

  6. mook says:

    vanek doubtful for game 5.

hey, i don’t get all the hype over ennis. is this a robbie shremp type of thing?

  7. ccm says:

I was there, best game i’ve ever seen, none the less been at

  8. cebbie says:

10m for Kovy – glad we did not get him – I guess Thornton will have some competition now for biggest playoff no show.

  9. Mook says:

TSN has a bunch of assholes working there. Look at this headline: “SABRES FEELING DOWN, BUT FAR FROM OUT AGAINST BRUINS”

Nope, they’re out. It’s just a formality now. I know all you who are thinking “we got one more game to win” and “don’t start looking too far ahead” but the truth is the Sabres have had some of their best games, and we beat them. Also, they are so reliant on their top 2 or 3 guys…with them out of action there’s no chance.

Tonight won’t be a close game. Bruins will score first…and they’ll score 3 or 4 times before Buffalo hits the scoreboard.

All the bruins really have to look-out for is all the dirty cheap shots that could seriously injure a top-tier player. No fighting tonight, boys.

    • #4 says:

About the cheapshots thing mook. I was thinking about this and its probably one of the B’s best attributes here in playoff city.

Think about it a team like the Sabres is built like a rigid structure where guys like Miller/Vanek are the main supports holding up all the other players. You remove or weaken one or both of them the whol structure fails and collapses.

The B’s are more of a blob. Get it? Theyve dealt with injuries to “top tier” players all year and never get to play with a full roster. Yet look at them now! You can remove any piece of the blob but you cant break it down because there is no one main support.

I love this years team the heart grit and determination are there! The team has had to pick its own self up after being abandoned by the fans after the “Payback” Pittsburg shitshow. That has made them stronger now than they were even last year in the playoffs methinks.

  10. patrick says:

i hope to god your right Mook. they need to stay disciplined and freakin capitalize on those chances that even some of us could bury. score a few on the pp and if they do end up in the box stay perfect on the pk. got both my jerseys, tshirt, winter classic hoodie, and original colors long sleeve for my buddies who are all coming to the bar with me tonite for support. representing the Beaners from Erie Pennsylvania. GO GO BLACK and GOLD!!!

  11. #4 says:

Anybody else getting annoyed by how little credit the B’s are getting for leading this series. Like MOOK said TSN is still giving the Sabres the benefit of the doubt, and every articl is “Miller played awesome yaddayadda if they win it will be because of Miller” What about the B’s supporting Cast like Satan/bergeron who have come up sooo huge for the B’s this series??? Nope no1 noticed but US!

  12. backbruin says:

Not suprised at all, even last year when we won the conference all the talk was on pitt and wash. I’m so use to our B’s getting swept under the rug up here in Canada that it’s easy for me to turn my head!

We have had devastating injuries all year, we still finished 6th. We are beating the 3rd best team in the conference with those injuries, no recognition. And our best point getter is very near to comeback, no recog. And we have a rookie goalie who is playing lights out, still nothing!!

Maybe when we crush pittsburg they will start talking about us but i’m not holding my breath!

wow what a story though “IF” it happens that way, would be Savard returning in the second round opener against PITT!!!!

I think you would see a lot of eyes on the series then!!

  13. TheBellEnd says:

Mook, I hope you’re right about it being a formality….alot of people on here were trashing their own beloved bruins a mere few weeks ago yet here we are talking about beating a team in the first round being a formality…don’t get me wrong, I understand that in all probability we should and will win…just think a few of us may have drank some courage juice to be sayin the exact opposite of what was being written in the not so distant past….

that being said…FUCK THE SABRES IN THEIR STUPID ASSES….god i hate them

  14. Mook says:

all this talk about the sabres missing vanek and connolly not being 100%…noone mentions what a total annahilation the bruins would lay on the sabres if they were 100%. add savard and seidenberg, and give us players playing at 100% (like lucic is still hurt, chara has dislocated fingers and a broken face, krecji complaining about hip pains again, etc etc) and all this vanek talk is gone.

i mean, who is vanek anyways? is he a good player? never really stood-out for me. the sabres have miller, and will have myers. until myers learns to make decisions faster, teams will not respect him and he’ll just be a hal gill, and not a chara.

sabres did well in the regular season, and created a lot of excitement for arguably the worst city in all of north america…but stop making excuses and just accept the reality that the bruins are the real deal.

i have no doubt the bruins crush the sabres tonight. bigtime. philly’s 3-0 win will look like a saturday afternoon nap compared to the thrashing we’re going to see tonight. bruins 8 sabres 1. not kidding.

  15. JRy says:

We can’t get ahead of ourselves here, guys. Sure the bruins are playing great and physically kicking ass, but all these games could really have gone either way. As long as Ryan Miller is in net the series is not over.

  16. ELWOPPO says:

    Vanek, Torres out

According to Lindy Ruff, Thomas Vanek is getting closer, but is most likely not ready to play tonight.

Raffi Torres, who has two assists but no goals in this series, will be a healthy scratch. He will be replaced by Nathan Gerbe.

“Hoping he can bring some scoring,” Ruff said of the former Boston College star. “Maybe a second unit power-play guy who can add a little something for us.”

Ruff emphasized the need for Derek Roy, Jason Pominville, and Tim Connolly, his most skilled forwards, to bring more offense tonight. Among the three, only Pominville has scored a goal.

“Our key players for us — the Roys, Pominvilles, Connollys — have got to get it done,” said Ruff. “At the end of the day, they’ve got to get it done.”

  17. JONOVISION says:

    Bos 4, buf 2. goals B’s,Humwick,Paille,Recchi,Ryder.Buf,pomminville,grier.SOG.Bos 32,Buff 28. frst str.Recchi.

  18. Habhater says:

I think the Bruins need to bring a smart, disciplined and controlled-emotion game tonight. The Sabres are clinging to life right now and will take and do anything to get back in the series. If the Bruins can score first, concentrate defensively and frustrate the Sabres the chances will come. At that time, the Bruins must stick the dagger in the Sabres heart.

Do not give them life or any sniff of a chance and the Sabres will collapse. I do not want to see game#6 and the Bruins must seize the opportunity tonight.

  19. ELWOPPO says:

lol…..Here we go again! They cant possibly come back again!!!!……..Can they?

  20. da wreck says:

No guts, no fire, no energy. Its frustrating to watch them play like it’s still October. If you wanna win in the play-offs you gotta bring something more than that.

Also what happened to making the safe play? They teach you in novice that the boards and glass are your friends. Why try a pass through traffic up the middle in your own end?

    Frustrating.

  21. Bruins says:

A little bit of effort today would be nice.

  22. ELWOPPO says:

Guys be thankful were still up 3-2 in the series! This game is done!
Game 6 is due or die! If we lose that one…Were done!!!

  23. Gcole says:

Well then, what a difference oe game makes!! These guys are terrible WTF

  24. Gcole says:

Oh and Jack edwards need to shut the fuck up about the series in 04 they lost after leading 3-1!!! You don’t need to talk about that for gods sake, he mentioned it three fucking times!

  25. Birdman2403 says:

Lucic is just missing something ?? Good 1 shift brutal the next ??? STURM = USELESS !!

Look for a special guest Monday night. He will be wearing #91 Savard !!!

  26. Gcole says:

Man buffalos fans don’t seem to give a fuck at all! 3-0 and it’s dead quiet

  27. bbears24 says:

not to worry fellas, this was a good wake up call….we have to only win 1 more to their 2

    • Bruins says:

Well you can also look at next game being pretty much a must-win situation. Blowing a 3-1 lead and going into their building for game 7 would be rough to say the least (even if we do play better on the road).

  28. da wreck says:

Good game by the Sabres. Outplayed the Bruins by a long shot. I wonder if Lindy Ruff is going to find something to complain about tonight? Chara shouldn’t be allowed to play cause he’s bigger than Myers? Not enough bad calls against Buffalo? Julien’s lack of hair?

  29. Bruins says:

Ruff is the biggest douchebag in sports. I hate that guy with a passion.

  30. Bruin fan north of the Boarder says:

We have to close this series off on Monday. Sucks that it goes all the way on monday, gives the sabres a chance to bring Vanek back. Whatever it is we got to win and win big, and for fuck sakes score first.

  31. Bruin fan north of the Boarder says:

wanted a Linda Ruff complaint here’s one from boston.com:
At the end of the third, Zdeno Chara, slashed on the back of the leg by Paul Gaustad, went after the Buffalo forward and threw several punches to spark an all-out scrum. Chara was given an instigator, fighting, and game misconduct.

“It’s a serious risk of an instigator when you come in throwing punches,” said Lindy Ruff. “They’ve got to take a hard look at that. Anything in the last five minutes is stupid to do. I like the fact that we had one grab him around the knees, one guy grab him around the waist, and another guy grab him around the neck. And the big man went down. You get in a situation like that, everybody knows the rules. You can’t start slugging people. That’s exactly what Chara was doing. Our response was good to that play.”

    • da wreck says:

“I like the fact that we had one grab him around the knees, one guy grab him around the waist, and another guy grab him around the neck. And the big man went down. You get in a situation like that, everybody knows the rules. You can’t start slugging people.”

You can’t start slugging people, but you can pull him down by the neck? Wow, that’s interesting.

  32. bbears24 says:

    CHARA SUSPENDED FOR GAME 6…FUCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

  33. Bruins says:

There’s absolutely no way Chara should be suspended. Although look at who has the final say on it: Colin Campbell. I don’t like our chances.

    • bbears24 says:

just read that no suspension will be given, thank god. All though bruins have to smart on monday, but also balls to the wall, because buffalo will probably try those tactics for the rest of the series…Ruff is a moron, he said he wanted to get on the ice during the scrum, what is he trying to prove here?

      • Bruins says:

The guy’s a douchag plain and simple. Never takes the blame for anything, blames everyone for everything(mostly the refs and other team), acts like the world is out to get him and just says stupid comments like that. He’s never really accomplished anything so I’m surprised he still has a job.

  34. mook says:

ok i’m coming to boston for game 6. fuck it.

this is off-topic, but where would be a good place to eat that is “uniquely boston”?

  35. bbears24 says:

It’s been obvious in this series, especially when the Sabres were down 3-1, that Ruff was pulling out all the desperation tactics to get his players fired up. He called out Bruins forward Vladimir Sobotka for “ducking checks” and he’s complained about the way Boston has been playing.

Julien said he doesn’t pay too much attention to the opposition’s remarks.

“Not really,” said Julien. “I’ve heard and read Lindy’s comments and hopefully it’s his way of taking the pressure off his team, because if not, then it’s a lot of whining. It’s as simple as that. Every coach has his tactics and you just worry about yourself. Like I said [Friday] night, we seem to be the team that’s always doing the bad things, and they seem to be the team that’s on the nice side of all that stuff and they do nothing wrong.”

    SUCK IT RUFFFF!!!!!!!

  36. backbruin says:

Tsn reported that the bruins will seek a third party diagnosis on savy’s injury “just to be sure” on Monday!

I like the way the bruins are doing this to take any doubt from playing him in the VERY near future.

Could he play that night, most likely not but it makes you wonder!

    • Bruins says:

I doubt he’ll play Monday but if it goes to game 7 I’d expect to see him in the lineup, although pretty much strictly to be used on the PP.

      • Bruins says:

Sit Thornton and maybe go with something like:

        Paille-Bergeron-Recchi
        Sturm-Krejci-Satan
        Wheeler-Sobotka-Ryder
        Lucic-Savard-Begin

Rarely use Savard, and maybe double shift Paille or Sobotka in Savard’s place as the 4th line won’t get that much playing time. Lucic and Paille are interchangeable too.

Then on the PP go with something like:

        PP1 – Ryder-Bergeron-Savard
        Boychuk-Chara

        PP2 – Sturm-Krejci-Satan
        Wideman-Hunwick

  37. Bruins says:

Is there still no word on Stuart coming back? Pretty surprising that Savard is supposed to be back sooner.

  38. pearson says:

havent heard ANYTHING about stuart. he would be HUUUGE to get back though

savard and stuart back?… like el pres says… “cue the duckboats”

  39. #4 says:

    Sturm on bergerons line tonight?

    Sturm-Bergeron-Recchi
    Satan-Sobotka/Krejci-Lucic/Ryder
    Wheeler-Sobotka/Krejci-Ryder/Lucic
    Paille-Thornton-Begin

    Chara-Johnny Boy
    Wides – Hunwick
    McQuaid – Ferrence

That sound about right to you?
Cant wait till i get out of class tonight last week of this monday night 4:30-7:10 BS. I better still have B’s hockey to watch next week!!

  40. Loooch says:

Vanek is in tonight. No official word on Savvy yet. GTD.

  41. ELWOPPO says:

fuck vanek, bring him! whats he gonna do at 50% anyway?
I doubt Savard plays at all this series! Thier gonna have to do it without him!

  42. backbruin says:

Let’s go boys, i want the first goal tonight…come out hard and keep it going…I want my house to shake from the fans as well….loudddddddddddd in there anyone that’s going from this site!!

  43. backbruin says:

    looks like it’s

    sturm.bergy.reccs
    looch.kercji.satan
    rydr.sobotka.wheels
    paille.begin.thornton

  44. Gcole says:

please just end it tonight and dont make it go back to buffalo for game 7. thanks

  45. bruins4eva says:

hey lets do something we havent done all series…lets score first and lets win this game COME ON BOYS….YOUR AT HOME…HIT EVERYTHING IN SIGHT

  46. backbruin says:

Sportsnet reports Marc Savard will not play tonight!!

ok boys we win tonight i would almost bet he plays game 1 against pitt!

  47. Habhater says:

I know its a cliche, but imho it’s do or die tonight for the Bruins. That being said, I believe it’s imperative for the Bruins psyche tonight to score first and put the pressure on the Sabres for a change.

The Sabres will no doubt try to intimidate the Bruins into taking needless penalties. If the B’s stay disciplined and turn the other cheek, the best revenge will be a win tonight.

  48. bruins4eva says:

I believe this is stupid that they aren’t playing savard…if they lose im blaming the coaching staff…i mean whats the big difference if he plays tonight or if he plays wednesday if we lose…i dont agree wit this…its stupid…better win tonight or its over johnny

    • Habhater says:

From what I understand, although Savard has been progressing, the results of today’s test are not yet known. Until the result is positive, it’s a no-brainer for the coaching staff – Savard is not cleared to play.

In any event, I don’t think he should be rushed back just because the game is critical.

The Bruins, when they play a physical, in-your-face, disciplined game where they win the neutral zone can compete with anyone. The trouble is that they damn inconsistent at times, especially at clearing their zone. The tip-outs and love taps don’t work and I don’t know why the Bruins continue to use that approach. Launch the puck out or ice it if you have to. The game is relatively simple if you can clear your zone consistently & effectively.

  49. Birdman2403 says:

    Fucking idiot Chara !!! STUPID

    • Gcole says:

If your gonna take a stupid penalty, atleast kick his ass and get your minutes worth!

    • Andy says:

That’s our fucking CAPTAIN?! Why is he even coming in there? He doesn’t think Recchi can take care of himself? No point to even being there! That’s what they’re trying to get you to do, dumbass!!

  50. Gcole says:

Well there goesthe pp to start the 2nd! Idiots man! Whatthe hell

  51. backbruin says:

well ive been a wideman critic but he’s played well thus far, but cmon you dennis lovers….a simple flick off the boards may determine this series!!!!

    say it aint so dennis!

  52. patrick says:

refs trying to screw us again eh? some real bullshit calls sofar.

  53. Birdman2403 says:

I HATE DENNIS WIDEMAN !!!!! HE is our worst giveaway D-man by FAR !! That is a play a 9 year old knows to go up the boards….He gave Buffalo life, when they were dead in this game. YET ….he continues to get fucking ice time, blows my mind !!

Then Vanek, with 1 fucking leg, skates around him like nothing !! FUCK WIDEMAN…..SIT YOUR SORRY ASS DOWN YOU MORON !!!

  54. ELWOPPO says:

im gonna have a stroke…..i cant take this shit, My nerves are shot!!!!

  55. Gcole says:

A FOUR MINUTE POWERPLAY AND THEY CANT DO SHIT!!

  56. Gcole says:

If there was ever a time to take advantage f a powerplay my god what better a chance???? Buffalo is gonna come out flying now wtf

  57. Gcole says:

    RYDER YOU FUCKING IDIOT DUDE!!!

  58. Gcole says:

Did wheeler really just miss an empty net from 10 ft away?!

  59. JRy says:

Why doesn’t Julien bench these fucks! (Ryder/Wideman) both goals are shitty turnovers by the most worthless pieces of shits in the NHL.

  60. Gcole says:

LOL someone please have a video of satans goal celebration Haha!!!

  61. patrick says:

    the jogging devil haha

  62. North B says:

    Oh fuck..

  63. patrick says:

we good its over!!!!! woohoo!!! GO GO BLACK AND GOLD!!! habs won so we still dont know who we play yet.

  64. Gcole says:

    Anychance of seing Montreal?

    • pearson says:

nope. if wash wins, we play pitt, and if the homo’s win, we play philly.

at this point, i dont think it matters, we’re rolling.

  65. mook says:

if the habs win their series, we get the flyers. if washington wins, we get the pens.

  66. bruinskid says:

we on to the next oneee..

  67. patrick says:

    not till conf finals…

  68. Birdman2403 says:

GO HABS GO !!! Then they get Pittsburgh. Bruins vs Philly with BRUINS home ice !!

  69. patrick says:

what do you do when your favorite hockey team advances to the next round of the playoffs and gives you more ulcers your body can handle? CELEBRATE!!!! many beers will be had tonite. cheers boys. im out for the night. be safe all and have a blast doing whatever you do.

  70. Gcole says:

hmm philly or pittsburgh… either one would be a good series, but i might have to vote philly?

  71. Bruins says:

Wow talk about a tense game. All of those goals against were awful. Can’t blame Tuuk for any of them; he was awesome. But the giveaways and defensive zone coverage were pretty awful. Other than that a near flawless game, even with atrocious reffing.

Wideman redeemed himself but Ryder…good God. Same goes for Wheeler.

It would be pretty crazy if we could get home ice next round if the Habs win.

    • pearson says:

i gotta say.. the easiest trip we could get to get to the cup is through philly and then play the winner of pitt/montreal.

montreal has to win. does this mean, we “root” for them?

      • Bruins says:

I for one would LOVE another Bruins/Habs series. It’s almost like it’s guarunteed to happen every year, so you never know. There isn’t better hockey to watch than the games played between those two teams, no matter how much I hate them.

I’m definitely cheering for the Habs so long as the Bruins are in because I’d love the chance to shut them down if we play them.

  72. ELWOPPO says:

THATS HOW ITS DONE KIDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FUCK THE SABRES!!!!! U SHOULD BE ASHAMED SABRE FANS!!!! WE WERE MISSING OUR BEST PLAYER FOR THE WHOLE SERIES, AND WE STILL ONE!!! PLUS YOU DUMMIES HAVE THE BEST GOALIE….And we had a rookie in net and WE STILL ONE!

  73. Andy says:

I gotta say, boys, I can’t believe they did it! After that effort in game 5, you could see ’04 all over again. But they took care of business tonight. They did what it took to win. The only real problem was those fucking turnovers! But hey, that pussy Ruff is gone. I’ve hated that douchebag for a LONG time. Just a whiny bitch! Him and Lemaire, cause he ruined hockey with that pussy trap.

Good day today, though. Lemaire retired and the combover faggot’s team gets bounced!

Philly/Pitt – who gives a shit! We’d have to go through both to go deep in the playoffs anyway! Savvy in Game 1, baby!

    LET’S FUCKING GO!!!!

    • Bruins says:

I wonder what Ruff’s excuse will be today? I don’t see how it’s possible to use reffing for this game.

Buffalo sucks. And in the famous word’s of Lindy Ruff: case closed.

      • pearson says:

yea. somehow i feel like we’ll hear about the icing call that buffalo didnt get with 15 or so seconds left.

big whoop really, but someone will make it a big deal.

      • Gcole says:

i bet hes gona bitch and say it should have been icing with like 15 seconds left, and if it was they would have scored and won it!

  74. Bruins says:

    Krejci and Satan are pimps.

  75. MattG says:

Fuck Lindy Ruff, so happy to win that, no coach deserves to lose more.

  76. Jonovision says:

hahahaha fuk the sabres and fuk tsn for bein bandwagoners and fuk all those miller ass snifers! Tuuuuuuuk all da way!!!!

  77. Bruins says:

Funny stat of the day: the last two games marks only the second time in Rask’s career where he failed to record at least one game with a .913 save percentage or better in at least one of two succesive games.

So basically, statistically speaking, we’re witnessing the biggest Rask slump we’ve ever seen and it coincided with the Bruins upsetting the Sabres in the playoffs. The dude is good.

  78. bruins4eva says:

two things i wanna point out im sure all of you know….RYDER AND WIDEMAN you are lucky….and i love Satan’s face after he scored that shits funny…

  79. Bruins says:

Also remember that Gagne and Carter are out for the playoffs for the Flyers. It would be a great matchup for us.

  80. pearson says:

the period before, edwards said at the end of the 2nd period that he “has to go take more of [his] medication.”
