Bruins close to acquiring Horton??

According to James Murphy of, the Bruins may be close to acquiring Nathan Horton from the Florida Panthers.  While Murphy did not know specifics, the Bruins do have a surplus of draft picks. However, to fit Horton onto the roster without exceeding the cap, the Bruins would need to shed salary.  Horton’s no trade clause kicks in July 1st, so a move would need to be done prior to that date. Here is the link

People before u get mad and pissed off about this consider that horton scored 20 goals no one on the bruins matched and on a better team he can reach his potential in boston with soo many good play makers and can score 30 hey horton and seguin at least its better then last year. And by the way the people who say he’s not reached his potential wait a min guyz he’s in florida nuff said

  2. Smitty says:

They said Ryder would score 30 again too with Savard so you can’t just say that.

I think you keep this deal on the table until your pick is up, if theres no one at the 15 or 32, whichever this is for you give it up and bring in the young winger (25)

    wideman = norris 2011

how bout we do a horton and weiss deal for wheeler ryder and possibly a prospect and the 15th pick….not sure if this would work money wise, but we would be adding 50 goals and a ton of assists, since florida wants to get rid of both.

  5. Smitty says:

and I’m going to hit the lottery tomorrow without playing mook…

I think its all rumors and PC will stay true to his style and develop this team within. He hasn’t been big on blockbuster deals as of yet.

  7. Andy says:

I’d hardly call Horton a blockbuster, but I agree that this has the makings of Ryder, part 2. Overpaid, underachieving player. The difference is that he’s younger and hasn’t played with someone like Savvy. Plus, he seems pretty solid on the PP, which at different points, Ryder wasn’t even on.

The thing that I don’t like is that you look at how much salary we would be shedding next year – non goalie wise we only have 3 F’s (Savvy, Krecji, & Lucic) and 3 D (Wideman, Seidenberg, & Ference) committed beyond next yr, so we won’t be so tight aganist the cap. The one thing we don’t need is to take on another massive salary if the production doesn’t match.

I can see both sides of the argument, but that’s an awful big risk to take, especially if you are intent on re-signing Chara & Bergy..

  8. backbruin says:

Horton is a better player than Ryder, I wouldn’t sell the farm for him but he would be a nice fit. add seguin/hall and horton without giving up too much and we are really good!

  9. Joe says:

I think a lot of you should read the article because there is more involved than just Horton. Supposedly it would be Horton and a top5 pick. That would be huge because the Bruins want a top defense man. Think- Horton, Seguin/Hall, and a top defense man in the draft. That is huge considering that would jump start our offense and it would give us a potential stud defense man to maybe give us that number 2 that we have always looked for. I mean we have had Wideman who was good and then fell apart. We are mostly made up of Chara and a lot of number three defense man.

what would it take to get horton and the 4th? 15th, 32nd, wheeler, thomas?

  11. lucic crew says:

dreamers yet again pc wont do a damn thing

    • mook says:

didn’t pc get us the 2nd overall pick?

      • Bruins4life13 says:

only because that asshole kessel wouldnt resign. hell draft seguin or hall and thats the end of all his big moves for the next year and a half

      • lucic crew says:

        exactly bruins4life13

    • Joe says:

I agree that people get all hyped up over nothing, but to say that he has done nothing. Lets see, he brought in our number one goaltender who could be the best in the league one day for a scrappy goalie. He brought in Lucic, Savard, Chara, Krejci. He signed Micheal Ryder who was great for one season and okay for the other. He signed Mark Recchi who has been a leader for this team. He traded for Seidenberg whose presence on defense will make an improvement. Lastly, he has made our team a contender every season since he came here. I don’t think all of that was a dream.

      • BE says:

Lucic was part of that of the sampsonov deal many moons ago joe shmo!… a cup contender every season… hmmm boston has always had a contending teams we are spolied we makes the playoffs a good amount there are a lot of teams that dont have that luxury ….. i dont think its PC that has given us that oppurtunity. And yet still no Cup!

  12. Haus says:

well said Joe…. Some people here have serious attention deficit disorder.

  13. backbruin says:

The franchise is going in the right direction, no worries boys.

  14. JRy says:

I’m hoping that chiarelli is trying to get hotrod to even out the salary in a trade that would net us the forth pick. The forth pick would be huge if we could get hall/seguin and cam fowler. I know it has been said already, but horton and seguin/lhall would do wonders for ur offense (even if horton only does score 25 goals). No to mention possibly a franchise Scott niedermayer type defenceman roaming the point.

  15. Bruins says:

I’m content if Chia barely does anything this summer. Horton would be a nice add but it is a risk to bring in a guy that one of his teammates said didn’t have a heartbeat. Our core is great, we have a ton of prospects, some of whom are NHL ready or very close to it. Build within. And you know a full year of Savard and Lucic will help the offense immensley. Not to mention Ryder will show up because it’s a contract year.

  16. lucic crew says:

    good for you BE

  17. ccm08 says:

Horton coming to the team would be awesome. Change of atmosphere may be just what he needs. Him and Hall/Seguin, man we’d be in good shape. I’d give up wheeler and a pick for him anyday. I really hope this trade gets done.

  18. Bruins says:

I wonder what would be going the other way if Horton was brought in? Obviously the 15th would be gone. Hopefully Wheeler. We might have to throw in the second rounder too. If Ryder is dumped something like this would be good:

Horton is that right handed shot that would go with Savard. Seguin’s speed with Krejci’s would be deadly.
