Savard to miss start of camp

According to Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe, Marc Savard has been suffering from post concussion syndrome symptoms.  Savard will not be ready for the start of training camp and there is no timetable on his potential return.  Shinzawa also noted that Savard has not been able to work out in recent weeks.

With Savard’s health in question and the possibility he may not be ready for the start of the season, it allows the Bruins to consider young forwards Joe Colborne and Jordan Caron as potential wingers to make the club.  This also means the Bruins will keep Tyler Seguin at center until Savard is ready to return.  There is also the possibility the coaching staff opts for a veteran, such as Jeremy Reich, pushing Daniel Paille up to a top 9 spot.

Didn’t we pay a high enough price for injuries last year? 3 weeks to puck drop and it has started already!!

  5. moast says:

Whatever….we should be used to this by now.
On the bright side, we will see what the youngn’s have to offer. Then when Savvy does come back they will know who to send back down.
dont get me wrong, Ive been sailivating at the line of
    Lucic-Savard-Horton for awhile now.

Do you guys think that McGratton will make the team with Thornton already on it?
    McGratton-Campbell-Thornton is pretty fuckin mean!!

    • Bruins says:

I hope he won’t. I mean is there really a need for two guys that can only fight? After Thornton guys like Lucic and Chara can step in, although it’s not ideal.

  6. Bruins says:

Murphy’s Law: anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Also can be pronounced “Bruins”.

  7. mook says:

i hope savvy is back by nov 20 (i’ll be in boston at that game)
just got celtics tickets for the 19th too. pats tickets for nov 21 (vs colts) is next…

  8. backbruin says:

Don’t worry fellas Savy will be ready…..i smell a deep run either way!

  9. Brendan says:

just means a trip to boston for another prospect and id love to see caron/calborne/hamill up asap

As much as I worry as well, it seems that most of us mis-read this…. it says the start of “camp”… not the regular season. I also read that Savard was playing lacrosse over the summer and he just played golf with PC a few weeks back. Could he possibly be pulling a Brett Favre? He was “hurt” by the trade rumors. Maybe he is looking to miss a little of camp? Especially when he is a lock for a spot.

It’s not like Thornton, Colbourne, or even Ryder are missing some camp? I may be wrong…. but I’m just saying! LOL He’ll be ready for the season and playing with a chip on his shoulder!

Look out for the Bruins this year!! I’m really excited and I think they can… and WILL compete for the Cup!

  11. CCMGoalie says:

I think Savard will likely miss the openers in Prague and Chiarelli will have him stay home as a precaution. He’ll be ready a few weeks into the season and come in putting points on the board like no ones business.

I believe Seguin, Caron, and Marchand are the most likely candidates to make the team. Hamill has a shot, but if he doesn’t make the leap this year look for him to be let go, bought out, or traded at some point this year.

Ryder needs to prove himself this season as the pure shooter he used to be or we’ll probably see him go before the deadline in March maybe the All-Star game. I also feel like Chiarelli isn’t done making deals just yet, I still feel like there’s a trade coming just before or just after the season opens and we’ll see Satan make a reappearance on the roster. Probably on the same line as Krecji because their chemistry was undeniable in the postseason last year.

  12. Brendan says:

BosBrn you also have to take he has been unable to workout for several weeks its going to take some time for him to get back into game shape if this story is true

  13. pearson says:

man o man, what a headache. im not saying that i hate marc or that we should trade him, but honestly, can we ever go a week without hearing a negative report about savy?

concussion, trying to skate- not progressing, not taking leadership of the team up 3-0, “responsible” for the two many men on the ice penalty that “cost us the game,” trade rumors, hurt feelings, more trade rumors, upset with management, trade rumors, not being at captains practice, now finding out he wont be at camp after we land him a new BFF linemate………….

UGH. its just a drain. why do i get the sense that this is all a semi-staged soap opera?

    • Bruins says:

We don’t know if there’s even a shred of truth to the trade rumours. It all started when TSN broadcasters said they’d trade him once they got Seguin and it all just snowballed.

      • pearson says:

no i know, and there was alot of reporting from eklund, which i need not explain….

but PC has come out and admitted to shopping savard; something he NEVER does! he never talks rumors! why in this case did he……

      • Bruins says:

He never admitted to shopping him did he? He just never squashed the rumours, which is fair because they’re just rumours. He shouldn’t be concerned with that.

  14. #4 says:

    I smell a fish…

  15. Bruins says:

A sign of things to come: Seguin setting up Bergy for the goal. They had the PPF line out (past, present, future) with Recchi, Bergeron and Seguin.

  16. #4 says:

Bad feeling about savard here missing training camp usually never works out good for anybody. They always either get re-hurt or are out of shape and dont live up to expectations. Im hoping he proves me wrong and its just a bit of PCD but I smell a fish in the water..

    1) Savard comes back from concussion
    2) Savard gets too many men penalty likely cost the b’s the season.
    3) Rumors start that savard threw sobotka under the bus with the penalty call.
    4) Bruins draft seguin predicted to be the B’s best player in a generation.
    5) Every hockey source had reports of savard to x,y,b for w/e this year.
    6) PC didnt squash rumors instead said he was just listening to offers.
    7) Savard says he is offended by all the trade rumor and bad attitude talk circling around him.
    8) Savard sits out training camp when concussion symptoms mysteriously return at the last moment….

hmmmmmmmm whats #9)???????? I hope he doesnt want out and the B’s get handcuff’d here and have to move him. Because of these extracurriculars…

  17. cebbie says:

One good thing about Savard – his 5 mill – ryder 4 mill – sturm – 3 mill – leaves a nice hole in the cap space if two go long term and ryder gets his butt sent to providence. Don’t know why but I would not be surprised to see another trade some time soon

  18. moast says:

Bruins source is reporting savvy could be out for the season……anyone else hear much of this?

    • BosBrn77 says:

I just read that on the ESPN website. Where did all this come from? He was playing lacrosse earlier this summer, played golf with PC and was working out hard getting ready for camp.

Chiarelli did dispute what was said. Lets hope this is all a ploy.

Bad News…. missing Savard all season would really SUCK!

Good News….. We would have cap space! Although I’d rather have Savard and worry about the cap space!

Good luck Marc…. get well fast!!!

      • Bruins says:

No one can declare that he’ll miss the season if he’s suffering from PCS. It’s so unpredictable. It’s possible he could miss the season but it’s just as likely he could be back in a few weeks. And this stuff can come up at anytime, which explains why he was fine working out this summer.

Cap space isn’t that big of a deal. All it means is that we can keep the plug Ryder when Sturm comes back.

  19. willisss says:

Claudes words ” seguin has done nothing that to make us think that he should not make the line up”

  20. chief says:

Hes done guys, start thinking about life with
out Savvy! I guarantee this does not look good! Big blow ae offence is good but not HALF of good with him in the lineup! Dont try and tell me different.

  21. BearBlood says:

I think it is the best for Savvy and the B’s.Savvy’s not happy about all the rumors that took place about him trading to kings, canes, leafs etc etc. But let’s be honest, Savvy will not be the Savvy we know anymore and we can use the cap space!

  22. cebbie says:

No dopubt they are a better team with Savard in the line up but in hindsight this group has not gotten it done over the past years so maybe it is time to move on and bring up the young players and see what they can do.
