Kaberle deal close

According to WEEI.com the Bruins are close to acquiring Tomas Kaberle from Toronto. The hold up in the deal is a contract extension. The Bruins would have to shed salary so a position player is expected to be moved in this deal.

Joe Haggerty of CSN is also reporting that Mark Stuart may be on the move to Chicago to free up more cap space.

  1. backbruin says:

It looks like Tomas Kaberle is close to heading to the Boston Bruins. Yes, for really real.

He’s the mobile defenseman the Bruins need and he’s been courted by Peter Chiarelli for several years, and the Toronto Maple Leafs seem set on selling him while they still can. His contract expires at the end of the season.

Here’s the always-plugged-in Darren Dreger of TSN.

Failing a complete meltdown – which has scuttled at least one previous trade involving the Toronto Maple Leafs, Tomas Kaberle, and the Boston Bruins – there’s strong belief that Kaberle will be traded to Boston.

It’s unlikely the deal gets done today, but sources say it’s close and say the deal doesn’t hinge on Kaberle signing an extension with the Bruins.

The Bruins will surely have to make another move to clear some cap space, since according to CapGeek.com, they’re currently only cap compliant thanks to the LTIR cushion. Their acquisition of Chris Kelly earlier this week led to speculation that they could trade another forward to make room for a defenseman like Kaberle.

Considering it’s doubtful that Tyler Seguin or David Krejci or any of the other forwards on the team that earn more than $4 million are on the move, the likely target seems to be Blake Wheeler. He earns $2.2 million a year against the cap and is a restricted free agent at the end of this season. Dreger mentioned his name as a possibility as well.

  2. moast says:

Chia get it done and fucking move on already…..so sick of hearing this bullshit. This will be a good move and for Chara as well. They will be great together and I do beleive that Kaberle will thrive in a defensive structured team that makes the playoffs. I feel he will elevate his game and be a great addition.
So, sign him, get an extention done and move on to a Krejci, TO 1st for Richards…..push for it. If its sweet enough I think it would be hard for Niewendyk to resist. I do love Krejci but the guy has to show up all of the time if he wants #1 centre.

  3. Bruins says:

I’m nervous as hell about this. I do not like Kaberle. I’m hoping they can get him for a good price if they’re picking him up.

  4. backbruin says:

I love that moast!!! love it….that seems like it’s enough too! great thought!

  5. bruins5 says:

Dont really like kaberle either bruins…I also nt like the idea of signing a declining player to a contract extension

    • Bruins says:

Knowing Chia it will be a 7 year deal with a NTC.

      • moast says:

Hope not but I could see it as Chia likes the long deals and Kaberle seems like a home town guy…..he will want a longer deal so he doesn’t have to worry about it.
I see a 5 year 5.25-5.5 mil with a NMC and NTC. Don’t like it but that is my thought.
If the chemistry is the way I think it will be between him and Chara, I think a lot of us will be more than happy! Will help the PP anyway so that is abonus especially come playoffs!

  6. lucic crew says:

Guys relax if this happens it will be a good move. Sure would i rather have seabrook, you fucken right but picking up kabs is going to be a good pickup.Kabs feeding the puck to big z sounds good to me.

    • Bruins says:

Are you still going to say that if it’s Caron and a top pick? The fact that they’re talking extension worries me even more.

      • moast says:

I see points to this….Extension 5 years at 5.25 mil? They better not be moving Caron, Batkowski, Sauve, Knight etc….maybe Colburne?

  7. Bruins1 says:

No don’t want kaberle. Rather have Bogosian, Johnson, or possible Klesa. Hate older players that are over the hill, and we will be over-paying to get him. Throw in the kitchen sink to get a young, skilled, PMD.

  8. Bruins1 says:

How about Wheeler and our 1st to St Louis for Backus?

Love to trade Stuart and Wheeler to Vancouver for Hodgson

I just hope we dont over-pay for kaberle

  9. moast says:

From what i hear on Haggs twitter….Stuart to Blackhawks to dump salary and then Wheeler and BOS 1st to TO for Kaberle. Money left over in case something comes up which I hope it does.
I mean really, how about a move for Hemsky or even Spezza…..dont hurt me on that one but i think Spezza would be great on a better team. His cap hit hurts but there would have to be a salary dump.

Love the D but not as much as I could:

    Chara Kaberle
    Seidenberg Kampfer
    Ference Boychuk/McQuaid

  10. moast says:

Hey….this is totally off topic but I would like some feedback.
I am a graphic Artist and my best friend is a screen printer…..throw in the fact that Im a diehard B’s fan and I think that I should be making some amazing shirts for myself and you guys too if your into it.
What i need help with is some good ideas that aren’t like the rest of the underground B’s tshirt designs.
Let me know what your thoughts are and then I will do one and let you guys see!!

  11. lucic crew says:

Ok bruins fair enough, who do you think can help you get a cup caron or kabs. I have waited to long for this team, i want a cup. So those picks you said to answer your question with a fucken smile on my face i would do that. Im tired of the bruins always have to babysitter all these young players so they can grow. Right now the bruins are a young team so we need proven vets too who can help to bring lord stanley.

  12. ELWOPPO says:

How about Bos 1st and backbruin to the Leafs for Kaberle?

    • lucic crew says:

Give me the papers where do i sign.

    • backbruin says:

backbruin has a no trade clause, it states until the two of you “come out” no no not in each other’s ass…. he stays right here….i’ll be glad to waive my no trade when you either tell us all how gay you are and that you are happy rainbow warriors!!!orrrr you shut the fuck up!!!

like i said i will accept the deal but we need the truth boyssssss!!

  13. lucic crew says:

Thanks moast i got it downtown toronto. And to your earlier post we get richards ill fly to bc and buy you a round of beers

  14. lucic crew says:

    lol moast get er done

  15. lucic crew says:

A source says a boston radio station kab deal done. And if not 99.9% going to happen stay tuned.

  16. Bruins says:

LC, there’s no need to blow our load for a rental who isn’t even that good. Even if we get him signed to an extension, still not that good. You blow your load for players like Brent Burns or something, young, good players that you can be assured are in it for the long haul. The odds are stacked against every team to win the cup, so you might as well build up the best foundation you can to get multiple shots at it.

    • lucic crew says:

Fair enough ill take him you won’t we have different opinions thats all.

    • ELWOPPO says:

Hey dildo, He had 67 points in 06,
      58 points in 07
      53 points in 08
      49 points last year
Already at 38 points this year(8more than Chara) and is doing it with a shitty leafs team! And is a year YOUNGER THAN CHARA! I THINK THAT QUALIFLIES FOR SOMEONE TO GET EXCITED! tell me someone out thier who has better numbers in the last 5 years than Kabs, who is avaliable right now? Its ok ill wait? Take ur time and research, Get back to me stupid!

      • lucic crew says:

You said what i couldn’t be bothered to say.

      • Bruins says:

Oh right, I forgot points is the only way to judge a player. You really have no idea how terrible he is defensively. And he’s all about racking up points on the PP. He does make a good first pass out of the d-zone, but other than that: MASSIVELY overrated.

      • God is on OUR side!!!!!! says:

have you noticed those number get lower and lower every year? typical bruins management,, get a player AFTER his prime. EX: zhamnov, leetch, coffey, and the list goes on

      • backbruin says:

hey stupid it’s not thier!!!!!! it’s their!!!! you dumb fkn monkey!!

joe kools saturday night…i’m awaiting your arrival!!

  17. mook says:

Darren Dreger reports sources claim a deal which would ship Toronto defenseman Tomas Kaberle to Boston appears to be close, and doesn’t hinge on Kaberle re-signing with the Bruins. It’s believed the process could take another day or two to finalize. Cap space is an issue for the Bruins, who could be working on a secondary deal (not involving Toronto) to clear up space, with Blake Wheeler ($2.2 million) a viable trade option given the club’s recent addition of Chris Kelly from Ottawa.

    • pearson says:

haggs tweeted that stuart to chicago? what would we target there? Im guessing we wouldnt get a roster player back as cap space is the issue with kaberle. someone know their farm system? whos good? not sure we need more draft picks, we’ve already got a dickload.

i also dont know how people dont want kaberle. his PP numbers are crazy good. and thats exactly what we need. if our pp was up there with the league best we’d easily have the best record. our PP has been a big differance in the close games we’ve played all year. GIVE US KABERLE ALREADY

      • lucic crew says:

        yup

      • ELWOPPO says:

Kaberle is scary good! Why do you think its taken almost 2 year to get him! Cuz he sucks? This is HUUUGE if we get him! Of course if we lock him up for 3-4 years! Rental no way! Remember hes only 32 (I believe) for defenseman its great age! Trust me watching this guy for all my life living in TO, He’s a point producer!

      • BosBrn77 says:

I don’t see Stuart going to Chicago unless we take someone back. They are tight on cap space. So why not Stuart and a prospect or pick for Stalberg.

      • CCMGoalie says:

I’d rather see us pick up Seabrook for Stuart and a pick instead of Kaberle. Seabrook is a younger player who is on the rise versus a guy in Kaberle who is (by age, not performance) on the decline. Seabrook brings a more enticing package to Boston than Kaberle, for myself at least. Kaberle is frustrated in Toronto and it would seem he is going through the motions, and has been for the last 2 seasons. If he comes to Boston, AFTER we’ve given something up for him and gets frustrated and is going through the motions again, we can call it another Zhamnov deal.

I think PC is smart enough to know that if Chicago is indeed eyeing Stuart that going for someone out there would be a better move because Chicago is right up against the Cap as well and looking to pick up a solid D-man to use on PK’s but for a lower price tag, i.e. Stuart.

  18. bruins4eva says:

this would be the best deal the bruins can make….both of boston’s 1st rounders for parise…in a heartbeat

  19. #4 says:

Man it’s been tough reading you retards without posting last couple days. Cant post at work nomore.

This deal Is ok. But the arguements suck. Kabs is good but he ain’t enough. If they give up a 1st at all I’ll be pissed.

I mean imagine this we give up a 1st roster playe an prospect. Then lose in 2 rounds and kabs walks in the summer. That would suck. I wouldn’t give him more than 4mil 4 year deal to resign and even thn I’d be worried

    • lucic crew says:

4 um whatever ill be looking at your posts when we do get him. And when he rips it and you praise him ill be there to call you a retard. Do not i repeat do not compare your noodle brain to pc you will lose small fry.

      • moast says:

To each there own….Boston needs this player and he will fit great. I dont like giving up a 1st but it will happen. Like some people posted previously, it takes to get and thats whats happening….all of the failed attempts at bringin in a puck mover have failed. TK is a Pm and this team needs help on the power play. Our first will be the end of the 1st round…..Ill take Kaberle over that for sure.

I guarantee that half of the people bitching about Kaberle would be bitching about Chia if he cant pull it off.

The only way i complain about this is about what we give up….if its BOS 1st, Caron, Wheeler + then I will be pissed but Chia isnt a retard.

      • #4 says:

Take it easy LC i didnt say Kabs sucks or I didnt like the deal. I said no first rounders involved por favor.

Kaberle is all good him and chara got potential to rip it up. But I dont think he is enough they need more improvement on defense. Even freaking NYI is getting chances bro.

    • God is on OUR side!!!!!! says:

      i agree 100% buddy

  20. ELWOPPO says:

#4 ur a goof like backbruin! Thier I said it!

    • Bruins says:

You were very close to spelling the wrong “there” right. You’ll get it someday.

      • ELWOPPO says:

As long as I get my point across! Besides u try posting on Iphone! Buttons are so small!

      • backbruin says:

bruins don’t even bother with eldummo and itch my dew…these two are buddies who think this whole site hinges upon there every words when in actuality we laugh at there idiotic spew that resonates from their keyboards!!

honestly last time we went through this, everyone except your gay boyfriend itch my dew thought wanted you two gone!!

but it’s ok keep thinking your something!!! it’s quite hilarious!!!’

        bahahahahahaahha see i’m laughing bahahahaha

    • #4 says:

Shove it up your ass elwoppo I didnt say shit. You would be happy if Kabs walks in the summer and we dont have a cup?

IM all for Trying but I said Kabs isnt enough if your going to go for it fucking go for it. And bring in Kabs + #1 Winger.

  21. #1 beesfan77 says:

Kabs is the real deal … def end the two years of rumors and get it done… noone will be bitchin about the pp nemore that’s for sure. However when this deal is done …. still think we need more. I would love a run at iginla sell the farm for him .. with the exception of marchand and Bergeron.

  22. lucic crew says:

You know i got to question these so called bruin fans on here that are against the kabs move. Picking up kabs makes the bruins a better team right away. The way you guys want is bring in more babies. WHO THE FUCK DOESN’T WANT THE BS TO BE GOOD RIGHT NOW. All i hear is get this guy and that guy, sure ill take crosby ovi too. Realistically kabs makes sense and just like elwoppo said go look at his numbers you fucken momos. I want proven players now not two years down the road NOW. Fuck im arguing about the bs getting better are u kidding me.

    • pearson says:

      spot on. add to it:

when trying to think of who the bruins should trade for ask yourself this: if you were the other team’s GM… would you want to trade that guy?

and yes, im talking to all the people that have said “get yandle, get evander kane, id like to see seabrook in blackNgold”

only some teams are selling players, and of those players, only some are available, Kaberle is one of those. and hes good. be happy.

      • lucic crew says:

Pearson were you talking to me in a previous post where you said link please.

      • pearson says:

hey man, link me to this tattoo….!

      • BosBrn77 says:

Well considering I have said in the past, “I’d like to see Seabrook in black and gold” I guess one of your fingers is pointed my way. Not sure what the issue with saying that is? Considering when I posted it, there was rumor that Chicago was trying to make cap space and Seabrook’s name was mentioned. Since then, Chicago has stated that he is not on the trade block. But that still has no bearing on me, or anyone else, saying they would like to see “insert player here” in black and gold.

But to respond to Lucic Crew….. who ACTUALLY had a point…… I agree. Kaberle would be HUGE in Boston. I usually agree with Bruins on a lot, but I have to disagree on this one. Boston needs help on the PP. They need a d-man that can transition the puck out of their own end. And like it has been said…. Kaberle and Chara together would be amazing! But…. I hope he signs a 3-4 year deal and he is not a rental.

      • Haus says:

Thank you Pearson for saying that! But that isn’t gonna stop the knuckleheads from their foolish proposals, thinking everyone is available as long as you throw in a bunch of picks.

      • BosBrn77 says:

They are only knuckleheads, Haus, if the proposals make no sense. Big time players get traded too, but only if the price is right, or you are dealing with Mike O’Connell! But I guess you know all of that already?

      • Haus says:

Let’s be honest though: older, rental-type players are the type that move during the deadline. The younger guys usually go around the draft during summer. Or, if you are Jumbo Joe, around mid-season.
On a side note, I never got as mad as most people did when Thornton was traded. I remember watching what turned out to be his last game as a Bruin with my brother. After the game I said “this team needs a new direction”. I was a little pissed that they got only roster players in return, no true prospects. It wasn’t that I didn’t like Thornton it was just that I didn’t think he would ever fulfill the crazy expectations around here. He was in a lose/lose situation in Boston. It just wasn’t a good fit in the end.

      • BosBrn77 says:

I’ll agree that rental types usually go around the deadline, but with the cap situation, some teams will move players just to be under the cap… so long as the deal is good!

As for Joe, I agree 100%… all day long! I was not as pissed that he left as I was that we did not get prospects… or at least a few picks. I think if Joe would have stayed, we would have never seen Savard or Chara, and Bergeron and Krejci would not have blossomed as well.

  23. ELWOPPO says:

FOR FUCK SAKES, NOW BURKE IS SAYING THE DEAL IS NOT EVEN CLOSE! HE IS WILLING TO LISTEN TO OTHER TEAMS! IS THIS GUY FUCKING WITH US? JUST READ IT ON NHL.COM
    FUUUUUUUUCK OFF!

  24. Bruins1 says:

Lets take our attention off kaberle and focus on someone better. Then grab Kaberle JUly 1. Burke can go fudge himself! Let him play hard ball and lose out and have nothing! Dont cave in Chia!

  25. ELWOPPO says:

    Sens trade Ruutu to ducks!

  26. Haus says:

Kaberle will help the PP and he’s the best PP Dman available at the deadline this year. No time to worry about next year because Thomas is having the best season he will ever have, time to make a run this year. The good thing about the Bruins prospects is that with the exception of LW and G they are deep and any of them can be moved without mortgaging the future. If Kabs is in, and Stuart and Wheeler are moved somehow that would leave 2mil to get another forward. It wouldn’t be a groundbreaking guy but if its someone who helps chip in some goals then great. Question is: who would be available at that number?

    • #4 says:

Nice post Haus. No Idea. I think the forward group is underrated and teh D is overrated. Id get another D with the 2mil.

      • Haus says:

Interesting take. When you look at it, the Bruins are tied for 4th in the league in goals scored and they spread them amongst all 4 lines pretty good. An impact Dman at 2mil may be easier to find than a forward. Perhaps Ladislav Smid from EDM would be a nice pickup.

  27. God is on OUR side!!!!!! says:

chris kelly is not worth 2.2 mill a season .9 – 1.3 mill max

    • pearson says:

……..? he hasnt even played a game yet.

people, you gotta stop complaining. the trade is done. hes here. its not your money to spend anyways. so quit splitting hairs.

      • lucic crew says:

well said pearson, go to hockey news when you get there you will see tattoos upper left corner, click on that then you will see bsss tattoos and you will see bear ripping out of my chest with bruins puck.

  28. zamer says:

FUCK Kaberle bring back Wideman our 1st.ference,colbourn.The age and money would help.FUCK KABERLE DEFENSIVELY WEAK.

      • BosBrn77 says:

Are you saying that to me or zamer, lucic crew?

  29. Gcole says:

And why is there a Habs fan at an islanders home game against Boston…?

  30. moast says:

I think Burke is just being Burke and tossing out the idea that there is no deal in place so other teams may still put in a last minute offer…..all business.
If other GMS are beleiving that the deal is done, then they are less likely to put in an offer. My opinion for what it is worth.
Bottom line, the Bruins need and will be better with him…..everyone else get over it.

  31. lucic crew says:

Come on bosbrn77 im agreeing with you. You think im agreeing with zamhead. Nope its your posts i agree with.

  32. #4 says:

Man I cant believe this game isnt 10-2 shit. NYI a JV highschool team?>

  33. Bruins1 says:

I hope Chia is going after Seabrooke rather than Kaberle. Seabrooke is so much better than Kabby. Give the extra pick n prospect to land him. Wheeler, Stuart, and 1st rd pick for Seabrooke
    or

Stuart and 2nd rd for Leddy

    • CCMGoalie says:

I think if we were to go after Seabrook it’d be Stuart, one of our 1st rounders (probably ours), and a prospect out to Chicago. They need to build up a young following that’s not expensive. Taking on Wheeler means they need to clear 2.2 Mil on top of Stuart’s (Bargain) price of 1.65 mil.

I agree, I’d rather see Seabrook than Kaberle, but I don’t think we should overpay for him either. I say we try and send Wheeler and a pick or two out to the Rangers and try to bring Callahan to Boston. Will Sather go for it? Maybe not, but I think Wheeler, Minnesota’s 2nd and Toronto’s 2nd wouldn’t be a bad fit into the system their looking to build up. Wheeler would compliment Gaborik very well with his speed. But the downside/real side is that Callahan is an integral part of the new Rangers roster so we’d probably end up giving up much more than just that for Callahan. What think on bringing Callahan to Boston?

  34. Manitoba Fan says:

Why isn’t Horton playing? Did he get hurt?

  35. Manitoba Fan says:

My bad, just jumped the gun. Fuck i wish we could play a solid 60 minutes. A team that puts its emphasis on team D-fence sure has been struggling.

  36. Bruins1 says:

Reading a lot of hockey writers out there and a lot applaude Burke if they get a 1st for kaberle. I really hope Boston doesn’t send their 1st and prospects for kaberle. He just isnt worth it

  37. lucic crew says:

Good win boys needed that goooooooo bssssssss

  38. Caperfan says:

Make the deal for kaberle already we need this player now. Just think what he will do for the power play which is still shitty by the way. Chris Kelly is a good player and he will make this team tougher and harder to play against. I watch him alot in the Ottawa games and he is there most consistent player thats why folks in ottawa are uspet he is traded to Boston. Come on P.C. pull the trigger for kaberle so this team can play together and find cohesion heading down the stretch.

  39. zamer says:

Ok you guys fuck wideman, but one thing is for sure this team needs a brent burns not a kaberle. We are not that great defensively when your getting outshot each fucken game.Back in the 80s man we had big wingers that battle the boards and lately I see us getting beat alot,Chris Kelly will be a help compared to 4 guys how should stop being scared.

  40. Paille says:

If its defense you’re worried about, Kaberle will be leaps and bounds better than Ference and McQuaid. And, not to ruin your opinion of Wideman but that guy was horrible defensively, one of the worst plus/minus players on the team last year.
More importantly, Kabs will help the pp, no doubt about that. I’m 100% for having him come on board for the right price. That being said, I see us moving wheeler (even though I like his play this year a lot, but you have to give to get i guess) or ryder and a 2nd. Who knows…

  41. lucic crew says:

The toilet seats just lost beautiful.

  42. Haus says:

Alright… Complete speculation on my part but, try to keep up here.

Could it be that the reason Kelly hasn’t gotten his paperwork done is that PC has gotten a little creative and he is part of the possible Kaberle deal? Look at it this way…from here to the deadline the Bruins play nothing but Canadian teams in Canada, hence no need to transfer his work visa. TOR has a glaring need for a 3rd line Center, Boyce and Brent are 4th line guys at best with no upside. Burke has said a deal involving Kaberle he would prefer NHL-ready players and prospects rather than picks. Perhaps PC acquired Kelly to be part of the package in order to get Kaberle. Really, how often is it that the NHL has difficulty with visa issues?
Not saying it will happen but just something to think about.

    • ELWOPPO says:

      Interesting.U may have something here!

    • Gcole says:

That’s what I was wondering, what’s the big deal with him going into the US, it’s not like he only played in Canada!

      • gibbz says:

maybe because its a visa and not a passport? because visas are for an extended stay in the US

      • Haus says:

True its a visa not a passport, but players get traded from Canadian to American teams all the time and I can’t remember a hold-up like this. Kind of perked up my ears a bit. Who knows,Homeland Security can be strange. A large bureaucracy like this, stuff can get lost in the desk-chain.

  43. #4 says:

It’s happened at least twice this year. When forsberg signed in col he had to leave the country wait 3 days then return with his new visa

  44. #1BeesFan77 says:

K couple thoughts here .. I understand a lot of people want seabrook good defensemen… however people bash kabs for declining play and old age at 30 cmon now…. lets not forget Kabs also plays for a declining leafs team and still continues to put up solid numbers for a defenseman. Having said that Kaberle 38 points and seabrook 31 to this point on a much more talented blackhawks team. Seabrook also plays alongside keith and campbell also offensively talented dee men …… who does kaberle play with of that caliber… and i dont wanna hear phaneuf. The fact is Kabs is a great fit hear , is the boost to our powerplay that we so desperatly need. And complaining about over paying him my god we pay ferrence over 2 million a year i dont care about his plus minus he makes more dumb moves a game then anyone else in the lineup.

  45. Vince_M says:

According to Boston Globe Bruins the trade for Kaberle is almost done. The trade will include Joe Colburne and Toronto’s 1st round they got for Kessel.

  46. ELWOPPO says:

New report from NESN saying now that Kaberle could be a bruin as early as Fri night!
The word is Kaberle for Boston’s 1st, Colborne and Spooner! Stay tuned as Young and the Restless will continue after these messages!

  47. ELWOPPO says:

I think the Deal is done! Can someone confirm? I got my boss on my ass and I cant check the Internet! Im about to punch him right in the FUCKING FACE!!!

  48. moast says:

Not done yet but what I’m hearing is Colborne and BOS 1st…..a little steep but what do ya do. You have to pay to get and not sure if Colburne will even pan out.

  49. backbruin says:

Craig Anderson for Brian Elliot…..? weird deal!! I love kaberle on our backend looks like maybe a two year deal too!! stay tuned!

  50. ELWOPPO says:

Ha ha ha, Now im reading Montreal is trying to lure Kaberle away! Also the bruins might be looking at Mcabe instead? Also Wheeler rumoured to Buffalo! Of course this is all speculation!

  51. Studlycodfish says:

Mcabe has a no trade and said he wants to stay in Florida, and Wheeler to Buffalo wonder who we would be looking at there? I also say that if this Kaberle deal doesn’t go down today we move on to something else, for the record I want it to happen but also don’t want to spend the next 10 trying to make it happen!! Go Bruins!!!

  52. Vince_M says:

    Well, is it finally done??

If Kaberle is done today will he play tonight?

  53. moast says:

Kaberle has been asked to waive NTC to go to Boston!!

    • #4 says:

*** – Editor’s Note from Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie at 12:19pm et: It appears as if Tomas Kaberle has been asked to waive his NTC to go to the Boston Bruins. There is every reason to believe he will sign it and the deal will now unfold.

      ohhh damnnnnnn

Colbourne+1st overpayment IMO. But w/e got to give to get. Reportedly Richards may be on the move as well stay tuned.

Krejci+Stuart+2nd for Richards? As long as he signed and was healthy id start planning the parade after these 2 deals.

  54. cebbie says:

Dont care what anyone says – Kaberle for any first round is too much – He walks from Toronto end of this year anyways – they you can get him for a bag of pucks- 2nd rounder at best.

    • RDF says:

Meh, maybe, maybe not….what if a team offered him some serious cash? At least the B’s have the opportunity (if he comes here) to take the time to talk an extension and get the team involved. It’s well known that Kabi doesn’t want to leave the east, but that doesn’t mean that Montreal, NY Ranger, Buffalo, Philly, etc. wouldn’t try to make a pitch for him in July if he goes that route. We’ve been waiting for something like this, a big deal that could put us deep into the playoffs, if not SC finals and we’ve stock-piled picks and talent to do so. The core of this team is in tact and I think PC will make a good move without sacraficing too much…..just my 2 cents though.

    • ELWOPPO says:

He’s the BEST defenceman availiable in this years deadline! How many times do I gotta say it OMG! Do u want to wait till the offseason and TRY to get him, Or get him now, Lock him up for long term deal and make a run at this years Cup! Let me know homie?

      • RDF says:

That’s what I’m talkin’ about…..why chance it when he could go to another eastern team in July…..get him, lock him up and put this team up another notch…..39 years and waiting for that silver cup in Beantown….it’s time to bring it home!

  55. Vince_M says:

    As per Bob McKenzie Twitter:

Deal Done, the Kaberle saga is over. Colborne, Stuart and Brad Marchand for Tomas Kaberle and Tim Brent.

  56. moast says:

Bob McKenzie and everyone else in the world confirming!

Colborne, Boston’s 1st in 2011 and a conditional pick for Kaberle the basis of the trade. Trade call still has to be made to close the deal.

    • moast says:

      Let the bitching start!
I for one am ok with this. It is overpayment but it was going to be no matter what dealing with TO.
Colborne may or may not turn good. We still have tonnes of talent and TO’s 1st.
      CHARA KABERLE!!

      • lucic crew says:

        exactly

      • RDF says:

My feelings exactly….time to get this team moving for the playoffs!

      • moast says:

The only way I get pissed about this is if they cant get an extension done. I doubt that Chia would make this move without the assurance that it will and by the sounds of Kaberle not wanting to be a rental as well as Boston being the only city he would trade to makes me more confident it will get done!

  57. #4 says:

Looks like wheeler is gone to.

    THANK GOD!

    Wheeler out
Draft picks in Hopefully a 1st from some contender.

    Colbourne+1st+conditional out
    Kaberle in.

    ?????????????????????

    Profit.

  58. hendrik says:

I think this is way too much. a first rounder, another in colbourne and a conditional… the leafs HAD to trade him, and there weren’t many other teams rumored interested in him, that SHOULD leave PC i a great position. For that, i think the price is too high… we better manage to re-sign him, or that deal turns out to be another “thornton-deal”

And what about the cap space? Is it enough to ship stuart to chicago?

  59. backbruin says:

I’m hearing wheeler to the rangers right now….stay tuned….gaborik??? would be interesting though doubtful with cap!! callahan i like him too!

    • backbruin says:

I like Kabeele and we needed him desperately on the pp….I know p.c is not done yet…..I think they want the cup now!!!!! cmon boys pull some magic out!!

    • Vince_M says:

      I am hearing:

Not official yet, but BOS trading Wheeler and Stuart to ATL for Peverley and Valabik. Pending trade call.

Again this is from McKenzie’s Twitter so I wouldn’t put money on it after the last post I copied from it.

      • backbruin says:

        Peverly???? I love that!!

      • Vince_M says:

I have now seen this on a couple of Twitter accounts:
        Joe Haggerty
Boris Valabik has idolized Zdeno Chara for a long time. Interesting addition to Boston’s mix for depth purposes. I like Peverley a lot

        Jesse Connolly:
Kelly’s debut, Kaberle almost here, Stuart and Wheeler to Atlanta (?) plus a Tobias Funke video? Jam. Packed. Blog. http://bit.ly/e5TX1K

        Nick Kypreos:
#NHL trade #Bruins move Wheeler and Stuart to #Thrashers for Valabik and Peverley.

  60. Craig says:

Wheeler and stuart to atlanta, missed for who

  61. lucic crew says:

    • backbruin says:

i’M NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND I’M SURE YOUR NOT SO EITHER GET ALONG OR CONTINUE THIS CRAP FOR THE REST OF THE SEASON…YOUR CHOICE!!

    • backbruin says:

And brokeback is hilarious right??? come on man enough already!! were all lame for coninuing this shit!!

  62. backbruin says:

dude drop it all ready you baby, more important thing’s going on then you getting your two cents in…seriously drop it!!!

    do you need a hug!!

    • backbruin says:

honestly all kinds of trade action going on and you need to continue posting your verbal diaphrea??

enough already!! this all started with your buddy once again!!! go back and read it, i’m not discussing this again!!!

  63. backbruin says:

With defenceman Tomas Kaberle in the fold, the Boston Bruins made another big deal sending forward Blake Wheeler and defenceman Mark Stuart to the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for centre Rich Peverley and defenceman Boris Valabik

    • lucic crew says:

      fair enough

    • ELWOPPO says:

Than stop acting tuff and shut ur mouth when it comes to us on here! This all started when u called all of us names for no apparant reason last Sat? What ever ur a waste of sperm and me and Lucic Crew would drop u in a New York minute if we ever seen u! Im done with u!

      • backbruin says:

oh my god really dude!!really??? who’s acting tough here you little fk!! see your boy here crew!!! he thinks this is what people want!!! calm him down or come on down one or the other!!! and believe me you don’t want the second half of that statement trust me!! and speaking of sperm it sounds like you have none??? you cry like a little girl spouting off like a little girl!!

        anytime kid!!! anytime!!

      • backbruin says:

and i didn’t call anyone names like i said it was a term of endearment…ask lucic crew what that means because he seems to have a brain that can reason!!! or do anything for that matter!!!!

normally with someone so dumb i wouldn’t continue with this but you take dumb to an entirely different level!

just be my freind elwoppo that’s all i want from you!bahahahaha

  64. RDF says:

“Conditional pick in Kaberle deal: 2nd order in 2012 if Kaberle re-signs in BOS or BOS makes Cup final. “

  65. moast says:

    Line ups?

    Lucic Krejci Horton
    Marchand Bergeron Recchi
    Ryder Peverly Seguin
    Paille/Kelly Campbell Thornton

    Chara Kaberle
    Seidenberg Kampfer
    Ference Boychuk/McQuaid

Seems weird to me that Peverly was aquired…..dont get me wrong, love the guy but why trade for Kelly then? Is there another trade coming?

    • backbruin says:

I think there has to be something in the works???? the 4th line will stay in tact….there has to be something else brewing this far away from deadline!!

  66. willisss says:

This is getting way too intence…I am not doing shit at work right now

    • RDF says:

ROFL….I don’t think anyone is…LOL. BUT, I would have been doing this on the 28th, so I’m glad it’s out of the way!

  67. backbruin says:

Is this it or is it just a prelude of things to come?? Normally this organization waits until the eleventh hour to make deals??? i don’t think were quite done yet!!

but what more could we do….can anyone put the numbers together and tell me where we are against the cap now???

i would do it but i have to go to work!!

    thanks!!

  68. Andy says:

My take – this is def overpayment. Colborne was our best prospect (and we don’t have too many good ones). The 1st isn’t a huge concern, given that hopefully it’s in the low 20’s, but it’s still a 1st. Apparently we don’t want to draft in the 1st/2nd rd this year. And a conditional pick? Why? I think Colborne and the 1st would’ve been fine, although I guess the conditional pick could be a 5th/6th. But for a pending FA? Def too much.

As for Kaberle, I’m w/ Bruins. He scares the shit out of me! A good puck-moving D? Check. Good on the PP? Check. Although A below average defender? Check. Overpaid? Check.

And as for re-signing, I DON’T want him back. We already have one overpaid D in Chara, now you want two?

The problem w/ this team is that we overpay guys (hello, Ference) and when they underpeform and underachieve, we can’t do shit b/c we’re close to the cap. What would’ve have happened if Savvy hadn’t gone down? We wouldn’t have been able to do any of this. Now you want to extend him? Unbelievable.

Instead of spending $45 mil on 11-12 guys who, for the most part, are underachievers, and filling out the roster w/ average prospects & journeymen, wouldn’t it make more sense to keep 2-3 core guys, sign young, hungry, talented FA’s, and try & DEVELOP our own players?

Works in CHI, PIT, DET, & WSH. The B’s problem is that they trade, re-sign, & draft the wrong players (not including Seguin or Caron, but don’t you love how we NEVER draft D – cause they’re not important, we have to TRADE for them) and then overpay the wrong ones too. THAT’s why we’re not really legit Cup contenders!

I’m rambling, but here it is – I think they needed Kaberle. They overpaid, but that’s our motto. I’m glad they shipped out Wheeler. I also like Peverley a lot. Overall, decent trade day. We’ll see how it all pans out…

  69. Andy says:

According to McKenzie, conditional pick is a 2nd rdr in 2012 if Kaberle re-signs or if we make the Cup final.

Here’s hoping Colborne doesn’t become another fucking Versteeg. Christ!

  70. moast says:

    BOS:
    Rask
    Seguin
    Kinght
    TO’s 1st 2011
    Kaberle

    TO:
    Raycroft
    Kessel
    Colburne
    BOS’s 1st
    Conditional 2nd

I would make that deal any day of the week. I may be missing a piece or two but you get my drift. This was for people who think that the overpayment was real bad. Boston is ahead in this picture.
